First a rant, if you'll forgive me. I am having the worst time trying to figure out exactly what to do with my character because it seems like so many areas are on hold. I've held at novice pistoleer for a while now because I'm debating changing skills, but I hate the idea of putting all my effort into another tree with no idea where the Everlasting Gobbstopper aka the combat revamp is going to leave everything. I want to head up a bit into merchant since the vendor limit caps seem to be inevitable, but the 64k question is where the caps will be in that tree and how hard artisan level will be hit. As a result of all this terminal indecisiveness, I have points scattered all over the place not doing much of anything, just in case I end up having to take those routes down the road when there are finally answers to the questions. About the only area I've devoted points to definitely is BE.

That brings me around to scout. The only real use I have from the profession is the mask scent, since I don't depend on supplying all my own creature resources. I'm using tailor enhancements to boost mask to 95 at exploreIV, and until yesterday it seemed to be enough. I've only made a few trips to adventure planets for sampling so far, but all in all I haven't had much problem with aggro, not counting the times I've jabbed the needle in too hard. Then yesterday, a herd of savage pugoriss spawned next to my mission and I couldn't keep mask up to save my life, literally. It was a random herd (no lair) of about a dozen, with nothing else red in sight. Mask was dropping within 10 seconds whenever I reset it, and I eventually gave up after my free trip home. Since I haven't spent a lot of time around the really challenging sample mobs yet, I'm now wondering if 95 is enough to get through as BE. Would the extra 30 from Master Scout make enough of a difference to be worth all the extra points and time or will 95 be enough to spend hours around BMB's and mereks?

Even with 95 youWILL be spotted by the tuffer mobs. However, most mobs with spot you a few times then allow you to come near them, if they dont attack on spotting you. Once you learn the habits of the scent breaks, you should be fine with 95. Just be cautious. Some of the tuffer mobs to sneak up on are bmb and rancors. They seem to spot 2-4 times before you can get close.

I have exploration 4, and I do not have any bio engineered clothing with mask scent mods. I also sample BMBs and many rancors successfully, although I admit, the clothing mods would probably help. The fact of the matter is this, you dont NEED 95, but it helps. So does caution and patience.

I wouldn't rule out bugginess in the mask scent regard just yet....

The other day, I was sampling grassland voritors to no end, only breaking mask scent & aggroing once out of 25 samples (:smileysurprised but as soon as I switched over to huurtons.....omg! Mask scent was breaking everytime I got near one. I have Exploration IV and I have +25 to mask scent so I'm really not convinced that there isn't something else that's a factor....whether it's a bug issue or what. The only reason I consider it a bug is because I can sneak up to higher end very aggressive creatures and break mask rarely, yet the lower level aggressive mobs break it constantly.
