Thread: Chef pricing
I just became a Novice Chef last night and I was wondering if someone could tell me what a good rule of thumb for pricing is. I don't want to undercut anyone or charge high prices (just starting with no experimentation yet). Maybe there is a post somewhere or a good guide to pricing.
Thanks for the help ahead of time.
Me personaly I charge 500 credits for any food novice can make that is under 4 in a stack. After that I charge aproximatly 200 per extra item in the stack hence 8-9 in stack I charge around 2k.
But that is just me.
Dove,
I personally price by the charge/use, but I dorefer to resource numbers if I've decided (or have been requested)to create items with maximized effectivity and/or duration to ensure that I do not drop below a threshold of profitability.
As I don't play for extended periods of time during the week nights (or at least I shouldn't), I'm often forced to buy some of the nicer resources and the higher quality meats/hides.Ipay market rate of 3-4 cr per resource (or more for higher quality) and at the very least my mark up would be x2. If I get lucky and a friend offers somthing for free or at a discount, all the better - but in turn I often give him/her freebies in exchange. In order to cover factory costs and other incidentals (travel, clone fees, entertainers, bazaar fees, etc. - none of this is free), I am often forced to further raise my floor level pricing to a min of 8-10 cr per resource.
You don't have to follow my plan, or that of any of the other players, but I hope this helps to give you a better idea of how to set up your ideal pricing structure.
Part of my reward for busting my tail and finding good resources is that I get to charge more for the larger stacks and better quality food they produce. I don't seeany logic or sense at all in ignoring stack size whenestablishing pricesformy products.
Flat resource fee of 4 credits per resource + 50 Credits Labor + 30 Credits/Per Charge??
So for example:
Tatooine Sunburn -
20 Gases * 4 Credits = 80 credits for resources needed then 50 credits for my time so we are up to 130 credits. Now we also have to make 2 Starshine Surprises... So lets calc that out:
15 cereal * 4 = 60
15 reactive gas * 4 = 60
10 mineral * 4 = 40
(Due to number of charges for this doesn't matter we wont add the charge cost)...
So we have 130 + 160 = 290
Now I am hearing that the charge is like 8 or so... so I will use for this example 8 charges... So 8 * 30 = 240...
So the total charge for an 8 charge Tatooine Sunburn is 290 + 240 = 530
Not sure if this is a good method but hey it sounds reasonable to me...
I charge 50 credits * uses -1 = total price on all foods/drinks except for Tats and BoH.
The two most popular drinks I charge 100 credits * uses -1.
My 16 uses BoH's sell for 1599.
My 10 use Tats sell for 999.
My 6 use Vercuptis sell for 299 and so on.
Shameless Plug:
Over 300 items in stock at all times. Crates available on most items. Tats, BoH's,Vercuptis, Tet Noodles, Pet food(225 uses for 1999!), Flameouts, Ormacheks, Bolvari Temps, Syncsteak, StewedG's,Vegash, Super Vegash's and the list goes on! Any item not availableisa simple request away from being in stock. Gotik's Wholesale Foods and Drinks on Corbantis just outside of Keren at 740 1741.Gotik'sis name to remember and a waypoint worth writing down.
I charge 10 cr/resource used to make the item. My prices (as far as what I usually carry) you can find:

I don't charge per use. As I advance in skill my customers benefit from better items and more uses on my foods, but I don't charge them more, which I think balances out when I don't do as well with some items, but do better with others. /me shrugs. I can't see charging more as well since things move fine at the prices I have set- not too fast, not to slow. It may be different on other servers.
Generally, I gain skill as I make items to fill my vendors with, I rarely "grind"; my customers get the fruits of this labor because everything that is under my "best" I simply destroy, while keeping the best. Only the best gets my trademark ![]()
Vasarian brandy 60flora * 1000 units = 300k for flora+ 900k cost of the broad spec or 1,200,000 for cpu cost of 40 crates
snowcake 55flora * 1000 units = 275k for flora + 900k cost of the broad spec or 1,175,000 for cpu cost of 40 crates
Rather then break down every item like this I'm comfortable with using the vasarian brandy as the mean or middle point for those chef items not using creature food or structural. My first instinct would be to [triple] theingredient costto come up with the retail price for the item (this is commonly done in the restaurant business). The breakdown is 33% food cost, 33% labor cost, and the remainder fixed and variable cost (utilities and maintenance). So your profit is your salary drawn from thelabor cost and whatever is left from fixed and variable.
cost times 3 or 3 * 1,200,000 = 3,600,000 divided by 40(crates) is 90k per crate of vas brandy or snowcake.
Now lets look at what we actually pay for the broad spectrum and add that in the formula. A good average cost to us for the broad specrum is 40k per crate:
40k * 40 crates (1000 units) = 1,600,000
Ok so our BE friend is charging 1,600,000 for a product that cost him 900k so his mark up is just under 44% or 700k perfactory runover his material cost. lets see how this effects the price of our brandy:
cost of broad spec 1,600,000 + our flora cost 300k equals 1,900,000
cost times 3 = 5,700,000 for 1000 units divided by 40(crates) = 142.5k for a crate of vas brandy
quite a difference. As we can see the BE products play a huge (disproportionate)role in determining how much we charge for our products. However 40k per crate for the broad spectrums is not bad and allows the BE to earn a decent profit.
I'm currently charging 150k for a 10use (large glass) crate and 120k for a small glass crate and 120k for all foods requiring the broad spectrum per crate. After looking at this I will discontinue the small glass crates and charge 120k for all crates requiring broad spectrum whether food or drink.
