It is all a matter of personal choice
If you want to go MCH do so only **if** you truly love playing with creatures. As of right now, CH, skill point for skill point, is the most horribly gimped combat profession... Though some might argue if it truly is ment to be a combat profession... Nevertheless it will **not** hold its own with **ANY** of the elite combat professions.
I was a MCH for about 2 or 3 months. I personally loved it for all its weakness as I just liked to have pets![]()
MBE is an excellent profession if you like a challenge and enjoy playing the "mad scientist". Our tissue, additive, and pet stimline is very similar in process to other crafting professions... That is, you get the resources, place them in the slots, and exp as much as the quality of resources will allow you.
The pet creation process is much different howeverIt is a complex process that has no bounds other then your imagination. No two pets will be the same even if you used the same DNA!!!
It is very challenging yet can be very rewarding.
Many who are MCH also pick up MBE to make their own pet stims and pets.
The main down side to MBE is it is hard to have every skill you need without having two accounts. A MBE can greatly benefit from mastering a combat profession to gather his/her own meat and defend one self from aggro creatures. A MBE can likewise benefit from Mastering scout and/or ranger for the concealing benefits as well as the Ranger's ability to "track" creatures. Yet even still a MBE can benefit from the Artisan line so he/she can survey his/her own resources and place a vendor... Furthermore up the Artisan tree a MBE could greatly benefit from taking merchant and having multiple vendors and registering such vendors on the planetary map.
Anyhow, as you can see, you cannot possible pick up all those skills with one character.
Perhaps some other fellow BE have something more to add

I'll tell you what I told a friend in-game who asked the same thing.
When you are a BE, yoru hunting is done SOLO 95% of the time. When you are crafting pets, you are Solo.
If you are a CH, you can hunt solo and do very well. If you hunt with a group, they love you for your tanker pets. It can be a social and a solo profession.
A complimentary prfoession can be any of the basic combat professions. I prefer Rifles for their ranged ability, heavy hits and the fact I don't have to wear armor - ever.
I have both. A Master BE and a 4/3/3/4 CH/Master Rifleman. I enjoy both. But Damun is far more social then Evyl. She is always out in the boonies of Endor or Dath it seems.

MBE/Master Doc is a pretty fun combination, but I needed an alt to get all the meat I need
so now my alt is a TKM and I'm grinding scout/merchant with him to get the meat and vendors
