I found a great guide for droid ownership, but now that I have enough creds to have a pet and mount as well, I have found information lacking for potential pet/mount buyers.

Things like.

The care and feeding of your pet/mount.

How to best use, limits of use (can you have a pet/droid/mount all out at the same time?, etc)

Relative price guide

FAQ - Does my pet mount ever actually die?

Overview of potential pet purchasing.

The difference in buying from a CH or BE.

Anyways I would like to start giving my money to BE's/CH's on Starsider but like to be an educated consumer. Any info would be of great help!

BTW I looked in guides forum, searched the web, and quickly browsed this and the CH forum and really couldn't find anything.

if you have no creature handler skills, you must get a pet that is lvl 10 or lower

also it must be a non-agro skin (i don't have my list right now, but i'll post it later if i can find it)

when you get your pet, it will be in deed form and will need to "tamed" (will go to your datapad and can be called from there) bring up the radial menu while in your inventory and click the "tame" option, but make sure you have no more pets out

and it will also need to be "trained"

you can trade it to a creature handler the same way you can trade items in your inventory by just dragging the icon from your datapad instead so that he or she can train it for you.

you can have up to two pets total in your datapad and only one pet OR droid out at a time

mounts will need to be 75-80% grown to be trained as mounts

to help your pet grow faster, bring him out once a day

when your pet is dealt damage, you will need to heal him using stims. any regular stim will heal health/action and will be normally affected by player medic mods. pet stims don't need any medic skills and are not affected by player medic mods.

also a note: pet stims run on their own 10-second timer than regular stims (you can heal with both at the same time)

when your pet gets wounds, he will need to be fed to recover health/action wounds andneed to do tricks to heal mind wounds (this also heals mind damage)

note: tricks take away from your action/mind

if you see your pet spamming "hungry!" or "play!" it means your pet is trying to tell you something... he's hungry and tired!

do a trick, feed him some food and he'll be all set

note: be careful what you have in your inventory, your pet will most likely grab whatever's handy, and might go after that expensive vercupti instead of those nutritional bofa treats!

there are also pet buff foods (ie. blap biscuit, felbar) and to use these, drag them from your inventory onto your pet.

you will get a message that you can only feed your pet once an hour or it must be stored again to rebuff

since doctor buffs reset when storing, keep that in mind.

which bring me to the next point. doctors can buff your pet just like you, but keep in mind (as i have already stated) the buffs will wear off immediately on storing your pet.

most of the commands are pretty self-explanatory but befriend lets another person shout itscommands that your pet will listen to

and about vitality.... when looking at your pet in your datapad, you will see 100/100 when you first get your pet. as your pet dies in combat, it will lose vitality, and when its vitality is 75, its stats will be only 75%, at 50 50%, 25 25%, at 0 it will be completely dead.

the number on your vitality pack should be equal to or greater than the vitality of your pet or you will lose OVERALL vitality

ex: if your pet is at 96/100 and you use a 49 power vitality pack, it will drop to 99/99 (remember if the overall drops to 75, it will be permanately at 75% or lower)

prices i can't really say (especially when you consider quality of pets) but i would say you should look to be spending from 2k all the way up to 75k for a non-creature handler pet

hope this helps
