I had the idea a week or two ago to try to see if I could generationally increase the fortitude of something like GVT(I was actually using one of the gurrecks)so as to eventually get armor on it, but my first attempt was unsuccessful. Even when fully experimented each generation lost a little fortitude over the previous one. I was not real careful about the dna quality however (I just used what I had) so I may give this another try using only VHQ samples, but this of course would require an enormous amount of dna (and time).

Aside from that, you're stuck doing what the rest of us do, and that is use dna from the best armored critters you can find, and supplement them with dna like GVT.

if you find something like that let me know (note: reclisive cavern spider queen is the only such animal in the game we can sample and it's near impossible to get).

I sample her near everytime I am on Dath...

And yeah, maybe even something with high kinetic and light armor in the first slot might get me light armor
