I wonder if BE is just getting kindof old for me. It's been fun, and a very interesting profession, but is this all we get? If everyone goes into space, will people still need BE food and cloths? Pets aren't really much fun anymore.

I saw a list of needed resources for ships. It's as bad as weaponsmith, or maybe worse. I think I'll stick with BE. At least I don't have to wait months for a resource to spawn.

I was in JTL Beta. I took up shipwright for a laugh, and was surprised at the amount of named resources required.
I would say, if you are good at a 'serious' crafting profession, then Shipwright is good, if you are an amateur, thenstay away, theres so many different things to experiment on which means you make a one off item to suit, rather than factory output.
If you are good at making pets, then you will probably be ok, it will set you up nicely for the complexities.
As for the resources, yes there are a lot of them, but there is guaranteed one spawn at any time, just maybe not high quality.
I'd say the biggest issues are the complexity, and, for a BE, the investment in Mineral/Chemical harvs instead of those nice Flora ones tucked away in your bank.

The other thing about shipwright is that I believe it will be a pure powergamer profession due to the shear amount of resources needed. The lot trading,10 account type with a couple hundredlots will be able to crank out ships at 3cpu and dominate. We saw this early on in the game with architects when that was the en vougue profession.

I'm usually pretty good at limiting my market(hiding out) so as not to become overwhelmed. I loved the complexity and creativity of making pets, even though it was a bit goofy and legally undefined sometimes. If shipwright entails some creative problem solving, I may actually drop BE. I just don't see much in our future.

The reverse engineering portion of shipwright is the only inventive take on crafting. It is not unlike taking DNA samples and making a new critter with the exception the looted units have to be the same type and level. It is a neat idea for integrating loot into the crafting process.
The rest of shipwright is simply take an insane amount of resource A, combine an insane amount of resource B with it and experiment. Out pops a ship. The amount of resources needed to make one ship is incredible. You can not find steel for sell in my galaxy. Everyone has either sold out or is hoarding it themselves.
Making animals is a lot more fun. I just wish they were more useful.

I am pretty sure I am going to do it... I just have to free up a lot then I will drop TKM then BE I will then become a MCH/ MSW / MERCHANT 4000... Don't worry I have no passion for Shipwright... so I will continue to pleague this forum. And when I get bored with space I will return... I think... or I may disapear. Who knows... but they have a nice guideso I just need to free up some lots and I will be in business. (Man I hope I do it this time.) I think it might be fun to regrindBE again after the space hype is over. But seriously I spend all my time in space, so I figure there is no point to BE for me right now, and it would be nice to re-engineer my own loot... others cannot be trusted.
PS for all you trusting type people... almost all containers have sae's in them if not ALL. They all have 2-3 items in them and one is almost always a SAE.
Just a heads up. I have been duped by Smuglers for over a year now. until about two months ago a guildy sliced a few containers for me in a few seconds. And every container had an SAE, I realized the delay nust usually be that they are sorting through the containers trying to mix it up and make it believable.
