Greetings,

I joined the second week after launch, and my first profession was BE... I stumbled into a broken mess... but I kept at it, eventually dropping it shortly before the big revamp/fix, when all the cool stuff was added, and where the class does this crazy thing called 'work as intended'.

What I would like to know, from any veteran BEs out there... how has the system changed? I realize DNA actually affects your final craft now, but I am clueless as to the experimentation process. What does what? Is it a simple 'exp. here for damage' kind of thing, or is it slightly more complex? What do the various ratings on DNA have to do with things? (no real impact back in the day)

Thanks for any help,

Nalf

There are some really good things written up in the FAQ describing the new experimentation process. Also, as you'd imagine, many many posts that can be searched. But for a quick "50,000 feet view" of the new crafting system as compared to the old:

old system: put dna samples into a "skin" and experiment. Final stats are much more dependent on the "skin selection" then on the dna or experimentation. Resists and armor come from the "skin".

new system: put dna samples into a "dna template" and experiment. Final stats, armor, and resists all come from the dna now and can be experimented on to a much greater degree. Then insert that dna template into any "skin" to get your final creature (and there are probably 5x more skins then before).

The new crafting system is definitely cool, but the timing of it was lousy. The new pet crafting system came out right after vehicles came out making pet mounts obsolete, and right after the CH nerf meaning that pet popularity was in a steed decline. A decline which has continued for the last year.
