Thread: facctory newb here
Can anyone direct me to a good website where it explains how to use a factory? I never did, and would like some pointers.
Also, do you get crafting XP from things you make in a factory?
thanks a lot
I hope this answers your factory questions. If not, please tell me where to be more specific.
- Craft the item you want to make a factory run of. Instead of making a prototype at the end, make a schematic (You have to do this standing next to a public crafting station, a droid with a crafting module in it, or a personal crafting station in a player structure.) I recommend making the name of the schematic somehow indicative of the result you got on the item, e.g. Enhanced Myoflex Treatment +16. Keep in mind that to make factory crates of things, everything you use has to be exactly the same as what you made the schematic from. The exact same type of meat/flora, and if you're making pet stims, you have to have factory crates of Liquid Suspensions, Biological Effect Controllers and Chemical Release Duration Mechanisms (or the advanced versions of those). The schematic has to be made fromcomponents for which you have factory crates.
- You must be an administrator of the factory (if you placed it, you are; if you didn't, the person who did has to add you to the admin list). Radial off the factory and select Options, then the one that has the word Schematic in it
- Find the schematic you just made in the list that comes up, select it and hit Use Schematic. If it's not there, the factory needs to be turned back into a deed and placed again
- Radial off the factory and go to Options again. Open the Input Hopper. Put in the ingredient resources/componentsyou made the schematic out of. It's normal not to see them actually appear in there unless you split or stack things...the updating doesn't work real well. Close your inventory and the ingredient hopper, and open the ingredient hopper back up if you want to make sure they're in there
- Make sure the factory has power and maintenance. That's in the factory's radial menu under Structure Options, I think
- Radial off the factory and under Options is Start Manufacturing. The owner of the factory will get an e-mail when it runs out of an ingredient or stops for any reason
- To get a quick summary of what it's making, how long each one takes and how many it's made, do an Examine of the factory
Theoretically, you're supposed to get 1% xp from factory-made things. I don't think that actually happens in practice, though. Not sure. Either way, even if you do, you don't get squat worth considering. The only way to get noticable crafting xp for things is to make them by hand
Thank you for a GREAT post on this. This information is no place I have seen yet.
Thanks!
I'm having problems with making crates so ill piggy back this thread.
Is there some form of witchcraft involved in making tissues go into a factory. last night and today i tried with no avail. this is the first time i have tried using my factory(food/chem) after finally making master BE and being able to make good tissues. Is there some form of witchcraft or voodoo that you do so well to make tissues go into the schem slot. they dont even show up in the select scematic menu. HELP!
Wow, I would like to thank you for such a great post, I went from newb to expert in 5 minutes.
Keep it going guys, you have one great community ![]()

Oh, stopping the manufacturing process, opening the hopper (either one) to grab something and re-starting the manufacturing doesn't make it eat extra helpings of the resources anymore. I do it all the time. So the only thing you lose is maybe a couple minutes off the run.
I don't know of any special trick to getting it to see a tissue schematic if it doesn't see that, but can see pet stim schematics. If it doesn't see any Bio-Engineered schematics, empty the hoppers, remove any schematic that is in it and re-deed it under Structure <mumble-something-or-other>.
Glad I was able to help! I like helping people.
See, that's why I wanted to be a Bio-Engineer...to make neat things for people that they needed. /cry
Hi all,
I am going to start a factory soon too and this post defiantly helps. I have a couple questions that some of you might be able to help with too:
1) Can you reuse a schematic?
2) Should you always set your production limit to the max number of units?
3) What happens if you set your production limit to 1000 but only have enough resources for for 800 items?
Thanks.
