Thread: Creature AE Bugged?
Imagine the scenario. You're sneaking up to a mutant rancor to poke it with your needle to get a sample to use in one of the many, many orders for lvl70 Clones you have. All seems to go well even though you feel somewhat nervous about the other 5 mutant rancors that are milling about around your sample subject. Slowly you stick your needle into the subject and hope for the best. You get... nothing. Fine, it has probably got thick skin and the needle didn't penetrate so you try again.. and again... and again... and again... and again. All of a sudden the mighty beast spots you and lunges out at you, but misses and somehow hits all of it's companions! Now this is all fine and well since you'll probably be able to run away while the six mutant rancors wail at eachother for about 20 minutes before there's one victor left standing. As you lay cowering behind a rock watching the massive battle unfolding you realise that this is just a huge waste of your time and a massive annoyance since clearly the beast did not intend to pick a fight with it's peers but inadvertedly did so.
The above is something that happens all the time while trying to get decent samples from any creature that uses any kind of AE attack. This is a huge annoyance and timewaster. I wouldn't mind it so much if there were other creatures that gave top level dna but as far as I know the mutant rancors are the best for getting the lvl70 clone-dna. Also the success-rate on the highlevel samples is ridiculous, often you end up having a 1-to-8 rate on creatures that behave like in scenario above. This is very frustrating. Anyone else have the same experiences?
I made my very first high level sampling expedition last night. I never got close enough to even try to sample. With explore 4 - and +25 in mask scent from my new hunting outfit - they kept breaking mask - and just about the time I'd get close enough - they'd go on a rampage and slaughter each other.
I can sneak up on mutant rancors 65% of the time. The trick is to be patient and either:
1) Prone from 45m to the 15m needed sample point
2) Walk (Hold SHIFT) a few paces and stop for a few seconds.
I'm doing this w/o any +25 clothes, so once I get those, hopefully it will make a difference.
