First off, when I DNA sample dangerous thingies like Rancors and such, I do it standing next to or right "on top of" my trusty x34 Speeder. Nothing like right-clicking that speeder, hitting Enter Vehicle, and racing off the moment you agro.

So far, I've been fairly successful. I also found you can follow a critter while riding the vehicle. Then, when said critter stops, /dismount and /dnasample.

However, I found this trick out by accident:

/dismount

/dnasample

/mount

You will finish the sampling process mounted. Not a bad way to finish up if you agro.

Actually, I'm finding I kill Bull Rancors rather fast with DNA sampling.

I've been waiting about 30 seconds between samples, and find that I rarely get attacked. I spent all day on Dathomir, and gathered some 250 dna samples, and only got attacked about a dozen times (died three times).

Also, find your local Master Chef and buy crates of glucose paste. Bumps both Mind and Focus, making samples much easier to take.

I agree I find that the closer I am the more likely I am to get a sample...

to sample i usually walk to within 15m then asoon as i get the sample off i run under him... then hit the macro again asoon as i fail ( if I do ) but i hav a good attack to keep em away, if i get agro'd i just burst and hit charge shot a few times, lets me get away.... thats my dna sampling trick....

Considering how some species attack the vehicles when they aggro this isn't as good an idea as you might think.

I get attcked by non-aggro Ewoks when I drive my car near them.

The vehicle works for most things. I will have to try sampling that way. Thespeeder bikehas made it somewhat unecessary for me to bring out my pets while sampling, but running back to where I parked it can be a pain. One thing I learned though is that if you're sampling a mission lair, you may never finish the mission because you will race out of range over and over again causing the lair to refresh. Good if you want lots of DNA samples, not so good if you wanted the credits.

what i found was once you run far enough they give up chase and as soon as they do turn around and run after them hitting the macro button and you will get him before he agros again. just hope you can run fast enough to stay within 16m.
