Seems that I can't get a lvl 10 clone to save my life. Without experimentation I get something like a 6 or an 8 with horrible stats. When I start working on it it comes out to lvl12, or higher, every time. I've tried cu pa, rock beetle, mixing those with yard trash, mixing dragonette with yard trash, mound mite, etc. I have yet to make an acceptible nonCH pet. I feel like I'm trying to perform surgery with a butcher knife. Any suggestions? Should I quit trying to make the HAM look balanced? Experimentation seems to do too much at one time. Put the lowest DNA in prowess since that one always gets a head start anyway? Put more points into psychology?

4K HAM is definitely possible, legitamitely, without bugged dna. However, you pretty much have to sacrifice everything else including resists and offensive capabilities. I do not believe that specials or ranged affects CL level though, so those you can still retain.

There is a type of voritor dna (don't have my notes) that has tons of vulnerabilities (but not to kinetic or energy). If you insert this dna into the mix it'll instantly lower the CL for you adding those vulnerabilities, which is a nice tradeoff.

However, I too have had tons of trouble with CL 10. The few nice ones that I've made have been 10x the amount of work that a nice CL 20-40 creature takes, and of course sells for less, and is still much much worse than those produced with "bugged" dna, so I've pretty much given up on it.

use regular piket in 1,2 and 5, and corellian butterfly in 3 & 4, experiment physique 3, mental 1 and psychological 2 times...

The trick is to actually not experiment much on them. That naturally raises the CL rating for the end result. I find it's better to sample from CL30ish critters. Make a direct copy with no experimentation and you'll end up with something of a lower CL than the donar. Produce two of these then resample again. Make a few minor tweaks if needed and the 2nd generation clone should be not far from CL10 but it'll have the resistances of the CL30 one. The HAM will usually end up around 1500 which is superior to what you usually see in the wild by a bit since they tend to have around 1000 for all HAMs.

As for making all HAms equal, there's no much point. Most non-ch use the pets as a meatshield so mirgate the stats starting with health as the highest, action as second highest and mind lowest. Since you'll find that health often takes more damage than action and action takes more damage than mind from PvE encounters. Thus you gain a benfit by making the pet last a bit longer in a fight.

I've made a decent cl10 using normal pickets in 1,2,5 and either lesser bols or butterflies in 3 and 4. Ends up with like 4k ham.

Ah, I wanted to avoid resampling, but I'll try it.

Sounds like pickets are the bugged dna. I'll have to give that a try tonight to make a point.
