Thread: How is sampling high levs with low explore (mask scent skill)?

hi,
im currently trying out be with my alternate charecter and i really enjoy it and want to pick up the profession with my main.
but with have a problem with my template, i want to have a combat proff so i can go hunting with friends and alone, and i prefere to survey and harvest my own stuff instad of buying it from vendors and bazaar (organic vendors is never easy to find anyway compared to inorganic). so if i take max survey i only got enough points for explore II or if i get survey III i can get expolre III. this will give me a mask cent skill of 20 or 40 without any mods,
so will my 45 or 65 mask scent (with clotes) be enough to get close to those big (mutant) rancors or is my plan doomed from the start?

i have exploration 4 (+70), BE clothes (+25) and Jawa Beer (+18) and I can only get near Muties just as long as they're not in groups of more than 2 or 3. You will also find that often once you get near you get a couple of fails and then it aggroes you.

TBH you dont need the surveying line to place your own harvesters, all surveying mods do is increase the radius you can survey at, and you only get the increase at surveying 2 and 4 (iirc) so if dropping down to surveying 2 will allow you to get exploration 4 then I think thats your best bet.

I used to have Survey 2 as my only surveying skill and had no problems getting my harvesters on good spots. Not as fast as survey 4, but effective.
You can never have too much MaskScent though

I am facing the same problem...drop survey 4 to keep explore or not.
Seeing as how my best friend and hunting partner ingame is nearly a master ranger...I'll keep my survey.
(in case anyone isn't aware, a ranger can camo you better than you can mask yourself as a scout)

lol you all are lucky. i have no points left to get beyond exploration 2.
novice artisan + business 4 to novice merch - mgmt 1 (for 3 vendors, 1 for my guild 2 for public)
novice medic + organic to master BE
master politician
novice scout + hunting 4 to master BE
i've added it all up and have no points for anythign else, so i have to make some tissues for my tailor to make me +25 maskscent clothing...and who do i get jawa beer from? i think i'll have like 7 sp left to get exploration 3 ... x fingers

yep, I have the exact same issue. My solution: survey 1 and exploration 4. That has been a great tradeoff for me. I have been able to successfully sample mutant rancors, and I do harvest all my own stuff with only lowly survey 1. If you go the low survey route, there is also a food that you can buy (or better yet barter for) that increases surveying range.

I'm changing my template around right now. The final will be:
Master BE
0/0/0/4 Medic
0/0/4/4 Artisan
3/0/1/2 Merchant
4/0/4/0 Scout
4/0/0/0 Brawler
2/0/0/0 TKA
0 skill points left over
This will allow me to have +70 Mask scent w/o BE clothes bonus, 3 merchants that I can put on the planetary map, survey my own resources, have a tiny bit of combat skills, and allow me to mediate away poisons or disease I pick up while sampling.

although its considered an exploit, you can actually drop merchant and still use ur vendors happily. personally i think that merchant should be a novice profession but this is the wrong forum for that

LOL yeah until they fix it and you lose everything on your vendors LOL now that would be messed up. I just dont' want to take the chance with my luck

Do you really NEED more than 1 vendor?
If not, you could drop merchant 1 and business 4 and recover 16 SP that way.
(Without Exp 4, forget sampling MRs)

Here's how I, with only Explore II and +25 mask clothing get mutant rancors. First I find a lair. I clear the first round of the lair with my sword. I hit the lair once andgo proneabout 5 to 10 meters from it fully masked. 5 times out of 10 a rancor will pop within the 15 meter sample distance. At that point I hit my sample macro. It works about 50% of the time, and if he aggros me, my buff is good enough to give me the time to get my armor on and kill the bastage. Being Sword speed capped also help killing the rancors quick if they do aggro. On a good day I can get 10 to 15 samples with no deaths. But then again, I rarely ever use high level DNA cause I think it's a waste of time.
