Each time I tried to sample Huurton Howlers I would get the message "You cannot sample DNA from that target." My avatar would then do a single attack action and the howler would take damage. The howler never attacked back, nor did I continue attacking.
I /bugged it but am wondering if others have experienced the same.

I've had this happen to me lots of times both pre and post CU. I just figured it was a bug similar to the warping bug. It's not creature type specific, and sometime you can break the creature out of this funk by attacking it with a ranged weapon. I have a cdef pistol I use just for this purpose. Doesn't always work though. As a side note, it happened more on TC than on live, and now on live it's happening to me less.

I got this earlier with Mutant Rancors. I moved right next to them and I was able to sample. perhaps its lag related, and the message should be "you are too far away"?? - perhaps its the wrong system message

I got this today on a mountain squill that was very close. Then the system decided that my /sampledna command really meant 'fire your pistol at the thing' and it attacked me. It was a 'broken' squill - one that attacked me and did no damage - one that the combat messages said I was damaging and yet no damage was showing on it. I rode away from it and it did not keep up with my bike.
I guess there are less of these since I first saw it on TC-EP3 but it is still annoying.

/sampledna will initiate an attack against the target if a default auto attack is turned on. Haven't had much problem with it turned off. I've been turning it off when collecting dna.
