Bio Engineer Archive
Thread: holy crap read this talk about forgotten
) Live suppot.
2) Mounts, Player Cities, and Vehicles.
We been focusing on critical issues and as many Live enhancements as we can, while balancing the necessity of finishing the systems we promised the players and felt were needed for the game. There are a lot of other big things on the horizon, but we are shifting our full priority to Live by fixing things that are broken and improving the overall game as much as possible.
We worked with LucasArts and our correspondents, and combed the forums to come up with some general guidance for the game as it stands:
- All professions should be interesting and enjoyable.
- The game should not end when you finish building your character.
- Players should feel like they are participating in and observing the Galactic Civil War.
- Combat should be tactically interesting.
- Key Star Wars locations should be richly populated with plot.
- Dynamically created locations should emphasize intrigue and adventure.
- Star Wars characters should be developed and detailed in the game.
- There should be more moment-to-moment interdependence (group tactics, etc).
- Adventuring should be as profitable and engaging as taking missions.
- You should be able to play fruitfully in a short play session.
We have learned a lot during the first 4 months of this game's life. We are examining our publish process and are moving towards a more efficient methodology. We want to increase our server up-time and stability. We are going through vast database optimization efforts. We have been developing tools that will help us create content much more rapidly. Test Center is going to be getting a lot more attention and utilized to its fullest extent. We are enacting a Test Center character copy for those that want to try out the new systems (and help us break them) before they come live.
There is a lot on our plate, and we are regularly going to provide you with as much information as we can about what is going on. Our priorities and tasks feed in from a variety of sources, and there are very many items on the design priority list. We will not be able to get to all of them with the next few pushes, but we want to take on a number of things that will make the game better, immediately. These include:
- Professions Augmentations
Droid Engineer
Smuggler
Merchant
Chef
- Creature balance pass
- Combat pass
- General Loot pass
- MOB AI revamp
- Loot pass on themeparks
- Jedi Bounty Missions
- Junk Dealer revamp
- Dynamic POI's
- Expanded Theaters
I wanted to let you know that we do hear you, and we love this game as much as you do. We hope the coming months are going to be a total blast! If you are currently away from the game, you may not know that there will be mounts running around, players creating their own cities, and vehicles blasting across the terrain very soon. There are even rumors of a few Jedi walking around...

NOT ONCE DID THEY MENTION ABOUT BIO ENG WHEN THEY LISTED THE PROFESSIONIN THIS LINK makes me want to give lucas a nasty email ![]()
Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I think the creature balance pass is a pre-requisite of the cloning changes. The creature balance is where they have an automated process look at the stats for each creature and compute the CL. As it is now, a human sat down and gave each creature a CL completely indpendent of its actual power, and you ended up with what you always end up when you let a human do something like that - stupidity. The Rock Beetle and the Greater Sludge Panther and the Graul Mauler are the result.
They need to put this automatic-CL-calculator in place so that when we create a clone with a particular set of stats, it can spit out a CL automatically. If I'm still a BE when this happens, I'll make an army of level 50 gnorts and take over the world...
If they're cool, then both systems will appear at the same time. If they're lame, then the creature balance pass will appear without the cloning changes anywhere on the horizon,we'll get another apology from Keldarin, and we'll get to watch CNN to see footage of Talthazar going postal.
I'm not going to make a prediction at this time.

P.S. If anyone knows what general goegraphical area Talthazar lives in, drop me a PM...
there are 34 professions in swg. let me amend that: there are 34 broken professions in swg. when they do stuff like single out 3 or 4 specific professions, of course it makes everyone else feel left out. how do you think the squad commanders feel? or the droid engineers? or the ''carbiniers'' (they can't even spell the name right!)? or the pikemen?
my point is that you are overreacting. they can only do so much at one time, and those 4 seem to be the next four that are on their priority list. that doesn't mean that once they are done with those 4 then they will see the game as balanced and all classes as fixed! far from it!
i know it's a hard life to be a bio engineer, i used to be one. i was so irritated when the only attention be got was when ch was whining like they have a tendancy to do. when they only ''fix'' to be was adding pet stims so you can be veterinarians, while they stealth nerfed dna sampling. but be isn't the only ones with a hard life, carbineer has it bad too. hell, smuggler has a whole tree that has no skill mods and no skills. and the only special for squad leaders that works is the system messaging.
Not sure I understood all that Jen. Granted, droid engineer has a lot of issue and I'm suresmuggler does too but if you'll notice, they were listed. They may be borked but hey, they are getting some attention. The chefs are completely pollaxed and they've been listed as well.
I'd say it comes down to the title of this thread. BE is the forgotten profession.
As BEs go, I feel like I'm pretty content, but eager for more content and down-right excited about where the profession will progress eventually. The sheer size and magnitude of the task SOE decided to embark upon is awesome, and for what they have done to-date, it is highly impressive. So, I guess I'm kind of a "glass is half-full" kinda guy.
I'm willing to give them a little latitude that they didn't single out our profession. As another poster commented, DE, pikeman, and virtually all professions seem to have their albatross.
HOWEVER, I have to wonder what the hell they're thinking with these fine "priority" ideas:
- Junk Dealer revamp
- Dynamic POI's
- Expanded Theaters
Junk dealer revamp? Really? Is that what I need to see more of? Watto's junk shop ain't doling out the goods properly? And those full-length plays all the entertainers are doing these days...thank god for more theaters. ![]()
So...uhmmm...if I could be so bold...SOE PR folks, be diligent with what information you think players want to hear first, huh?
