Hello all,

I am new to the Bio Eng profession and would like a bit of advice. Does having the Ranger profession make the BE profession any easier? At the moment I am learning TK and BE, would it be worth my while sticking at Novice TK and working on the Ranger tree?

So far I am enjoying to BE profession even though the creatures I have sampled for DNA have been of poor quality but this will get better over time

Beware my might Jutland with HAM of 200/150/50

Any advice would be helpful.

It's debatable whether you'd harvest anymore with Master TKA or with Master Ranger. Having ranger would allow you to harvest more per kill but you'd kill a lot faster being a combat master. Of course, you'd harvest more milk as a ranger as well as be able to findcritters you're looking to sample.

Thanks for the fast responce, Thats what I am thinking. As I am messing about with BE at the moment while I find my feet in this HUGE profession I am noticing that you will need to find certain creatures so I was thinking maby Ranger would help.

Can anyone shed any light on this. Would being a ranger help me lokate the beasts with better DNA or is it a game of luck?

cheers

It's a good question. What would you like to do in the game, both inside and alongside the BE profession? For Creature making the Ranger would be be really helpful, the maskscent bonus, camo, and the ability to find the rare DNA donors. If you want to generally beat things up, get a lot of meat for selling tissues, or participate in live events and group battles TKM would obviously be more well rounded. Either way you'll have fun. Just remember if you do go the TKM route to keep the Scout Exploration tree even though it's not a hard prerequisite.

thanks for the advice. My other char on FarStar is a Master Tailor so originaly the BE route was to make my own Tissues but as I have been getting into it I enjoy making the little bliters that used to kill me

I think I will see if I have enough points to Master BE, Master Ranger and keep TK Novice.

cheers for the prompt responces.

There have been times when I wished for ranger critter finding skills. Over time I found most creatures I want to sample from spawn roughly in the same areas every time. Once you know roughly were to go to get the dna, it doesn't take long to find it.

You should have exactly enough skill points to go Master BE, TK 4040, Ranger 0030.

This will give you the Power and Meditate lines of TK. That measn you can do about 75% of the damage of a TKM, and can meditate off poisons and disease.

You have the directional area tracking of Ranger to find the creattires you need, and some enhanced hunting skills on top of a BE Pre-Req. (TBH I could not get enough meat hunting by myself, I need to buy it)

Where this template falls down is that anyone with FS trees will be short on SPs, and there is no surveying/vendors.

For creature making:

Having some tracking skills in ranger (like 0-0-1-0) will help locating creatures. It is a very nice thing to have.

Having ranger cammo will also help you sample the high end stuff, but it's kind of all-or-nothing. Either get master ranger, or don't bother with cammo at all, your mask scent will be better.

For meat harvesting:

My advice is don't bother with ranger skills for this, they are too costly and only moderately useful. hunting 4 with a harvest droid and really good combat skills will serve you infinitely better than ranger harvesting skills and less combat.
