Thread: Medic on TC5 healing xp and level observations

This afternoon, I went to TC5 to play around with the CURB. It seems there is a 'new' thing with medic since I last played and that is that you only get medical xp for the 'kill'. Yes, that's right ... only place you can get medical xp is in combat and you can only get it grouped with other players by healing them while they kill something.

The only problem is this - it seems that if you heal them, the amount of weapons/combat xp that they get is reduced. So gratuitious non-necessary healing is not only frowned upon but really not wanted - especially when if you use an instant stimpack to heal yourself, there is no decline in combat xp - only declines if a medic skill is used - with the xp being shunted away from the person making the kill to the person healing (this was reported on planet chat but they did not give numbers - I did not test this personally tested as I did not group). People were getting upset about it tho.

I tested healing myself while I fought a gorg. Final results indicated that the amount of healing directly affects how much weapons xp you get and that combat xp is calculated as 10% of weapons xp so that is reduced as well. Weapons xp + medical xp = a final constant value based on your level relative to the creature level. At level 4 (I think - might have been 3) I was getting 200 xp total per gorg. If I healed twice - 250'ish each time - that came out as 50 unarmed + 150 medical and 5 combat. If i didn't heal at all, it came out as 200 unarmed and 20 combat. I do not know if you get more medical xp if you are healing someone else other than yourself.

In addition, the medic skills I haddirectly affected my level. I dropped medic altogether and my level dropped. I was killing the same gorg's but now I got 250 total for the kill.

NOTE: I did NOT test to see if the organic chem branch alone affects level - I don't really wish to grind it up to 4 again. I suspect it does not as I had medic 1-2-1-4 and only was level 4, whereas a similar distribution of combat skills would have made me higher. Can anyone else confirm this?

What this means to BE (I think):

If instant stimpacks do not reduce xp gained and they heal as well as a medic - then these will be in demand more than medics/doctors. At least to people who are grinding ....

Our own level will be unaffected by having one branch of medic (probably). Therefore this will have no impact on our health bar.

I think that's all,

Thanks guys. So we still have that you can get xp only while in combat and only when grouped UNLESS you are healing yourself in which case you are considered to be your own group for the moment? Random acts of kindness aren't?

I didn't play on TC5 much today. Was harvesting mollusks

You get xp for healing yourself but, if I understand the comments correctly, you must be in combat when you heal yourself.
