Thread: [CU] Maybe there ARE no more special attacks ???!

Hi,


Well all the DNA samples I've taken have no specials. I was looking at novice brawler where there used to be stun attack and intimidate. I saw nothing of the kind. I'm wondering if, in fact, we don't actually HAVE special attacks anymore in the CU?

They're still there, at least in the Character template. Pikeman gets Intimidate at Defenses III and Stun at Support II for instance.

I havent seen any DNA samples with special attacks anymore, though

Perhaps it's dependant on the DNA sampling level of the BE.

I've noticed this too. In fact I've noticed that the times that I've been hunting I've never had any specials used against me from animals that I've hunted.

I puposefully went after critters with specials to grind. When I checked the combat logs the special attacks just weren't there. I'd like to think that it's something the Dev team just hasn't gotten around to doing yet.

As a programmer who is frequently asked to finish monumental tasks in too little time due to what the marketing people have decided MUST be the schedule ... I feel so sorry for the programmers who are working on this CU.

Actually something has just occurred to me. If *I* wanted to test out whether ranged and melee weapons had basically the same 'power', I think I would try to minimize differences between the targets as much as possible. I am beginning to think that they just took out the specials from the game to level the field for now and that they will be put back in at some point, either on the next phase of testing or when it goes live.


Special attacks are an integral part of the creatures/crafting game and nobody has ever mentioned that they were going to even out the creatures by taking them away ... THEREFORE, I really think they won't ... AND ... I think maybe I am guilty of scare-mongering and I apologize for it.

They are still working on balancing the animals per planet and most likely haven't added in special attacks to them yet. If they were really going to nerf animals of their special attacks, they should have told us by now.

If specials are being removed and the CH tree is not done yet - I wonder how conversion will work on existing pets.





I just got 4444 CHtonight and plan on getting master after work. I noticed that on every creature ive tamed/trained the option to train the special attacks hasnt come up. So yea we still have it in our skill tree but apparently our pets are without them at the moment.

I totally agree.


This update totally skipped the alpha phase of testing, which means that they're effectively nearing the end of where the alpha should have been. They don't even have the creature name display code completely done.


I think that they're focusing on screwing down all the loose bolts in the combat for the moment, and crafting hasn't even been considered yet. The schematics are there, but their main focus is trying to re-balance a huge combat system to use a foreign concept (levels) to tell players what they can and cannot kill. About whether it's just testing code or code they plan to implement, they have remained silent.


All the testers can do is keep chugging along and /bugging everything from heaven to earth and hope they can get this thing working before they decide to implement it on live. What would be worse than screwing up the system would be them putting in a system that just doesn't work, so at this point it's all speculation.
