I've asked this question in the past and received one response... After further searching, I find no other mention of it.

I set up a food/chem factory the other day to mass produce some Generic DNA Templates. Although I was able to make the schematic, the factory would not accept the schematic into its hopper. Is this a known issue? Is it by design? If a schematic can be made, why can't it be used?

Since factories require the same resources in a stack in the input hopper that are in the schematic and you cannot stack DNA because it is always different it would go to say that this is by design.

Bummer -- that's what I was afraid of. Since no two dna samples have exactly the same attributes, they wouldn't mix in the factory.

The two things that gave me hope: The ability to make a schematic (why give us the ability to make a schematic for an object that can't be run through a factory?) and the part of the schematic that says, "Number of average DNA samples required: 5" (since I used all average DNA samples to make it). It's almost like they initially designed the system to allow BEs to make dna templates but changed their mind at the last minute... Leaving all the code in, but disabling the functionality.

Oh well.

This is by design. You cant make exact copies of pets unless you have a precise formula that you constantly get the same results from. Thats one of the main distinctions of BE. If they changed this, I would throw a fit.

Of course, if they nerf BE to the point that its as useful as being a DE, it wont matter anyway, but thats another thread.
