Had the same thing happen - its one of two things:

1) handler doesn't have skill to use that ability in a creature

2) bugged pet

Special Attacks are bugged, and commands to do special attacks are broken. As far as I can tell, pet attacks are either not working at all, or randomly executed at the pet's will.

What DNA do you use to make the dizzy/ strong poison attacks?

Only way I've been able to make special attacks to work is to use it as the initial attack command (for BE and wild pets). Doing it in the middle of combat doesn't appear to work and the pet will use specials on it's own.

My customers have reported that the pets have to grow before they will use the special attacks. They begin using them partialy grown and then increase the frequency as they get older.

Check the CH forums - they have a few threads on this subject. The only special I have seen not work in battle (BE Pet) is knockdown. The CH forum has some suggestions re: /tellpet macros that they have had success with. I tried the macro last night but it didn't seem to make any difference in getting the pet to perform a specific special. Pets will use the specials as they mature (not when babies), and they will use them on their owns as well ( you don't have to tell them to perform the special, they will do it). Also keep in mind that a pet can be performing the special attack and the creature could have a resistance to it, or it just doesn't stick, sometimes it takes several tries.

Dizzy and poison attacks come from archne drone DNA (I think)

The only way to get specials to work is to make a macro that tells the pet to follow the target and then perform the special i.e. "/tellpet chase; /tellpet special1;" Using this method my pets consistently attempt their specials. There is no guarantee that their specials will hit though.
