Thread: Ranged attack skin dependent or not?
Thanks for the responses. Just to clear up as there is a little confusion (more than normal
)
When I talk about ranged attack, I am not saying whether the ranged ability is on the creature, as that is easy to get. I can produce ranged attack on any skin. But the FAQ states that only skins with ranged in the wild, will actually use their ranged attack in combat.
Seems like at least 1 person has got it to work, so I guess it really doesn't matter what the skin is.
Thanks.

Oh and the wild thing is bull, I have Razor Cats with Ranged attacks KD and Mild Diseases and they fire off like champs.
If people honestly are too stupid to figure out:
"a rancor SHOOTS at XXX Mob for 900000 Damage"
Means a Ranged attack was initated, and also that some pets have no reason to try and hit something that is 5m away from it with a ranged attack.

Short, to the point, confirmed what I asked - thanks Windsplitter, and everyone else who offered advice.
I wonder can we get the FAQ details changed so others don't get confused by this too.
I don't think we've cleared up all the confusion yet. Yes, you can put ranged attack on a skin and it will use it when it feels like it. My gurrcat does this, usually a ranged attack to open the combat, then closes to melee for the rest of the fight. (Actually, with the current bugs in stand-off distance, it now closes to melee then runs away, but you get the idea.)
This is not the same as having a ranged attack which can be used with the CH "Use Ranged" command. I am of the view that you only get this with a skin that has ranged ability in the wild. Some more tests needed.

I use a level 68 razor cat with a ranged attack on a regular basis and he has no problem using it. I even see "Shrike shoots a picket longhorn for 486 points of damage' in the combat spam, so the I know for sure the game is registering it as a ranged attack. I kinda prefer to think of it as hurling quills from his mane or something like that tho, not sure I like the idea of my cat spitting at folks ![]()
As others have said, once its on the template then the skin does not hinder the ranged attack translation to the final pet at all.

When training a BE pet with a ranged attack,I have never been able to trainthe pet to Use Ranged. The only pets I have been able to train the ranged command to are the babies from the wild which have a ranged attack.
