I like making pets, this is where my fun is. An advanced crafting system with many options, you learn how to make good templates. There is real experience here, you look at all those template numbers and it starts making sense as you get more crafting experience. All samples are unique (unless you have insane luck and get two with same stats that you can show off to other BE's and laugh about), there is natural variation. Getting the right specials/resist/HAM/armour vs no armour/to hit/speed/ranged vs melee/damage is a blast. Hunting good DNA is fun. It is not the "harvest best resources and experiment on this line, then put the rest in that line" that so many other crafting professions have.
Now the CU looks like pets will become generic. One level X is as good as any other, only skin and very little damage variation matter. HAM, resist and damage come from level. We only get to pick level, skin and perhaps specials. Feels like my teeth are getting pulled. I don't want to craft meds as BE, meds have the standard crafting system that is years behind the fun pet system that we have right now - at least for a few more weeks. Not sure what profession I am going to pick up instead of BE.

I'm worried about this too. But even more so I'm worried about trying to make high end pets. Currently still on test the profession requires Hunting 4. Now I am quite sure this is a bug, but every other profession has been adjusted so maybe the devs changed their mind and decided just not to tell us lmao.
Currently, with the current reqs on test, a MBE has a level of 14. Combined with a master combat profession it's only 57 and you only have 24pts left. Thats barely enough to do anything, perhaps pick up a few skills in a profession using the same base as your combat profession. Say MBE/MPistoleer with say Novice Rifleman and with the 3 points left over.. say Medical Support 1 to make your bacta spray fairly useful. Or perhaps spend those points to gain more skills in medic, say ranged healing 2, support 4. With pretty much either of these options you end up with a level of 57 or 58 ONLY.
Now how are we supposed to go out and get samples from anything level 70 or higher? How are we expected to be able to even sample the high end stuff to MAKE a level 70 pet? Unless mask scent becomes so good you hardly ever are noticed, or your chance of being spotted when sampling go down from 1 in 5 to 1 in 50, getting Merek Harvester or Montigrue Reaper or Mutant Rancor is gonna be next to impossible. Even when you happen to get a sample out of them they will turn on you and one shot you for crazy damage.
Now don't get me wrong I think the CU is shaping up to be awesome. But the above really worries me. Enough that I'm dropping the pet making part of BE, if just temporarily, to pick up master smuggler and some more healing skills, maybe even a little doc.
That and I'm spending the few weeks I have left to gather a stockpile of oft-used DNA
Hopefully it won't all be useless when everything is converted. I guess I'll find out, and I'll do more extensive testing, when and if they make a Starsider copy. Until then, I guess I'm relegated to worrying duty

What worries me so much is not how we are going to get the higher level DNA samples, although that is a concern, it's whether it will be needed at all. I really do not see them continuing the creature creation process with the same level of detail as it has now with the way things are being rushed. Therefore I am assuming that either creature crafting will be broken when the CUURB goes live, or it will be only a shadow of its former self...Neither bodes well for BEs...
