Thread: What'd I do wrong? Or is this par for the course...

After reading the "Dispel a myth" post I thought i'd share my latest rancor and try and get some input. Bio-engineer was one of my first professions but i dropped it at 3/4/4/4 ( in protest because they made me take my house off of Dathomir). I mastered several elites since and have in the last week gone back and mastered BE. I've spent the better part of the weekend collecting DNA and gathering some decent resources.

Today some really good meat came along and so i had to try a rancor.

Specifics: 14+ craft tool at +42 crafting station

The Flora: Rice 950+ OQ, 930+ PE, 930+ DR

The Meat: Insect Meat 985 OQ, 860+ PE, 890+ DR

The DNA: All from Rancors, Bull Rancor (or was it enraged rancor?) and Frenzied Graul...All pairs were 1900+ and Aggression/Power was 1950+

Initial template came out 55% aggression, a low 35ish for physique, aggression was experimented to 70%+ and Physique brought more in line to 50%+.. was a "great success"

I dont have the numbers from the template, but they did not come out so great, a disappointment considering the DNA could not have gotten much better.

The animal.. Initial assembly using the aforementioned meat and flora came out 21% (what the hell? these resources can't get much better..) nonetheless, was better initial assembly than i've gotten previously.

Experiment 3 points into aggression, 2 into prowess, 3 into physique, 2 into Psych.. a great success.. (did these all at one time). In retrospect maybe i should have done these a line at a time. The fact that this stage of experimentation is so screwed up is ridiculous.. has it always been this way? i dont remember way back when i was BE the first time.

The Rancor: 11.9H/11.4A/11.5M 649-661 damage, a mediocre Rancor at best.. probably even a crappy Rancor by some people's standards.

/Rant

This is bothersome because BE has ALWAYS been busted. I'm not prepared to wait another 2-3 months for fixes to happen and bugs to be worked out, its been plenty long enough already. If Weaponsmith's final combine Experimentation was this jacked up it would be hotfixed in 2 days MAX.

at this point, and im sure im echoing oh so many feelings of countless BE's, i think im just gonna round up some advanced components from a master doc, make myself 500 Stim-c and drop BE again. My subscription renews in 8 days.. may just squash that and forget the last 4 months ever happened.

/end Rant

So.. aside form the rant.. can anyone give me an idea to what i could have done differently? the materials and DNA were about as good as can be gotten in the amount of time (and $$$)ive spent on getting them. Is this crap just so random that i shouldnt even bother collecting good stuff to try and offer a quality product/service?

Your experimentation could have royally fubar'd it (and yes, experimentation on the final combine has always been broken like that). When you experiment on more than 1 line at a time, even if it says "Great Success", that's only for 1 line. All of the other lines could have been crit failures, it just displays the results for 1 of the lines (I'm not sure how it determines which one to show). You should DEFINITELY experiment 1 line at a time to know from your message results about whether it was good or not.

Also, don't experiment on Aggression, it's a waste of points (the mob will ALWAYS do the same amount of damage over time). Physique is health, Prowress is action, Psyche is mind - only experiment in these (and probably all in physique) for the first combine (for the DNA Template). For the final combine, it's just all fubar'd, not much I can tell you other than you prolly wanna experiment 4/3/3 in the above 3 stats. Again, do all experimenting 1 line at a time.

What was the quality of the DNA samples? I dont even look at the numbers if the sample is not Very High Quality.

All were Very High.

Thanks for the input, ill do it differently next time.

Well first of all, there's alot of random factors I've seen with clones. If anything I sometimes susspect there is something else going on with the DNA donars than simple levels. Try to bear with me here.

When you make a clone using 5 samples from the same species of v. high quality and then do it again you tend to get around the same kinda results from what I have seen. One stat is always a bit lower on the template I've seen or they're all even. What is odd is when you mix and match from multiple species, you tend to get somewhat random effects like as Wormhole saw with a stat in the 35% and the others in the 50% range.

So here's a theory, what if the stats on the dna are actually more of a percentage that you 'take' from that creature. So for the hardiness and fortitude you have the creatures health, lets say it's at 12000. If you get a sample which is 999/999 then you'd take all of that health into the final creature. The cloning process then compares that stat with what the clone is supposed to be like and that is how you get the final result. I first noticed this with the original borgle life sappers which always had some great mind results when I used their dna. The rancor used to be just skirting the 70% hance to hit when I stuck their dna into the mind slot.

Give it a try sometime, take special note of what stat for the donar is the highest (obviously we're a bit limited in what we can see), the only loophole in this is with the damage stats you get from junk dna for aggression. But i never said it was a perfect theory

I would have to agree that species have somewhat of effect on the DNA template combines. Back in the day when I was grinding Sampling on Seething Bol crushers, I noticed that no matter what the stats were in the Samples, if I put a crushers DNA into Psychology or agression, those stats would not raise as expected. In the other three stats, however, even with lower valued pairs I would continuously get higher numbers than expected and the Intelligence was ALWAYS the highest. Just some food for thought
