Thread: Making good clones- some of my findings
By now most of you know about getting DNA samples from creatures at or above the CL of the clone you wish to make...if you use blurrg dna for a gurrek, you will get full experiment range on the dna template. If you use yard trash dna on a gurreck, you can still get ok aggression and psych, but the phys, prow, and mind attributes stink. Also most of you know that it goes by pairs, IE intelligence and cleverness dna pairs make high mind attribute.
We can go beyond this now though.
There seems to be several outstanding questions left
1. What does the DNA quality do? To answer this quesiton, I got a big pile of yard trash DNA. I then made blurrg clones out of the very high quality samples, and i then made some out of the average quality samples. THe experimetn range on the VHQ for the clones was higher than on the average Q. So quality of the dna will influence the clone experiment range. If you look at clone templates, quality is actually an attribute (50% qual, 30% pe, 10% UT, 10% decay)...it says so right in the template...the DNA is a resource like any other, and its quality will affect the template just like a resource. You can see this effect by using garbage meat and grain in a clone, and then do another clone with great meat and grain...the latter will have a higher clone experimentation range. CLone experimentation range is a moderate effect, but it does come into play if you are going for the highest clones. The quality of DNA is random, biased by the DNA sampling skill of the bioengineer...as a MBE i will never get less than average DNA...which is a far cry from novice.
2. What gives you high DNA pairs? I am also pretty sure that the DNA caps at the attribute maxes for the creature/clone sampled. This observation came about when I noticed that successive generations of clone samples would result in a higher pair attribute total drift. For instance I defined good dna to have 800+ pairs, and elite dna to be 900+ pairs...the numbers of good pairs and elite pairs increased as I got into sucessive blurrg clone generations. By generations, I mean generation 0 is the yard trash, generation 1 is your first blurrg clone, then you take gen 1 dna to make a gen 2 blurrg clone, and sample that.
I also made gen2 blurrgs just by randomly filling slots and compared it to gen2 blurrgs made by properly assigning pairs. The gen 2 dna derived seemed to improve when you would sample from the latter clones. SO if you engineer, over a few generations the overall attribute totals drift up, and you would get much higher attribute pairs.
Now if high DNA pairs just came from high CL, then it would not matter one bit between Gen 1 blurrgs and Gen 5 blurrgs, as they are the same identical CL=50. But because for constant CL we see a drift in sample pair numbers tracking attribues on the blurrgs, I think we can say high attribute DNA comes from high attribute creatures. High level tends to in general have higher stats, but you dont have much control over wild dna attributes now do you?
There might be a CL cap for attributes, and creatures spawn with a range of attributes up to this cap. So higher level creatures would have a higher cap and it would be easier to hit the cap on them.
3. Where have all the good rancors gone? I get asked this alot by people who remember 700+dmg rancors. My theory is that when they put a level cap on dna sampling, we could no longer do things like ancient lantern birds and CL90 kimos, and those creatures would have attributes close to 1000. So while you can still get up there, it is much harder. I suppose if you did a 10th generation blurrg you would be getting around the old levels. You can go out and do voritor hunters at CL55, or ancient bull rancors at CL60, but its no guarantee...the randomness of wild DNA seems to add more variables to the mix. This is a bit of a drag, since the player market still expects kimo dna clones and we can no longer easily do that.
4. So whats a good strategy for getting high pair DNA? What I have been doing is sampling level 30 stuff like bols ... any of the good dna from this goes directly into making mounts and stuff. Every template we have that works other than gurrek and rancor uses CL30 or less dna. SO if you can directly crank out these low end pets on a gen 1 clone, that makes it worthwhile. I use 800+ DNA for this. Anything that doesnt make that cut gets turned into a blurrg clone and sampled for lvl 50 dna. Were I a perfectionist, I would only then keep VHQ 800+ samples for actual creatures, and send the rest of the dna through successive blurrg generations. I do engineer blurrgs for decent DNA now.
I have tried doing wild DNA samples of blurrgs, but without ranger, finding them is a bit of a drag. Even with MCH 70 lvls of pet out, pistol 3, and a probot all grouped, I cant get that mission to spawn on my own. So it turns into a 'if i see em, ill sample em' proposition.

appears you have overlooked that the quality rating of the dna samples is tied toits stats unlike the cl effect on the ham barsbeing independent of the stats of the dna used.
1. the upper limit ofeach experimentation range is determined by what the full stats would be from the dna used. that limit is determined by a weighted average of all dna samples used not just the single one selected for that category. that is why the number reached with full experimentation on a particular bar is always lower than the specific dna sample chosen for it.
2. luck is the simple answer since it depends more on vhq sampleswith theirbetter statsthan anything else
3. havent seen any significant change in the quality of the clones ive made including producing several 700 damage rancors and 640 damage gurreck after the sampling cap was put in place
4. are you sure the blurrgclones are cl 50? always underperformed rancor or gurreck dna - seemed to have results similiar to cl 30-40 range.
For blurrgs, I have gone out in the wild with a ranger and examined the wild version which is indeed CL50. The websites have it as CL50. My experience is I get ok ranges off of blurrgs. Ill get maybe 3 boxes off of bol dna for the template experimentation, and I get a lot more for the blurrg. Typical initial is 50-60% compared to around 30% max on the bol stuff. There is a karmuth defiler on danthomir that is listed on the web sites as CL50, but in fact is less. I think when I went out with my ranger to see it it came in at 49, and the dna experimentation range was much less.
As far as the rest of your comments go, they are intriguing, and Ill keep mathematicl track of a few dna template combines to see if I can verify/disprove what you are saying. Are you saying that if I use 953 intelligence, 400 cleverness dna in the mind slot, I will be capped at (953+400)/2 for mind on the xpt range for that? or are you saying that the cap for mind instead tracks the average of all 5 pairs? I find the latter hard to believe because high mind stat stuff does tend to leat to higher mind xpt range.
Or lets say the following
average q = 400-600
high q = 600-800
very high q = 800-1000
Are you saying that if you average all 10 stats, the average will define the overall quality of the dna and fall within these ranges?
