I just started the game a few weeks ago and i'm a bioengineer. I'm finally 1/1/2/1 and just wanted to ask the BE experts a couple of questions. I did some experimentation today and on one template I got for genetics I had absolutly no special attacks what so ever but when I got the same type of samples again I switched the physique with aggression and it gave me the special attacks I wanted. I read the advanced BE guide on the main website and still am a little confused. I wonder what determines what special attacks the creature will get or if it will have a ranged attack. Is this done by combinations or just having the same type of DNA?
P.S. The sample I was talking about was I got 4 giant dalyrake samples and 1 matriarch put them in the template and didn't get any special attacks what so ever yet when I switched out and put the matriarch in the physique slot and the giant dalyrake in the aggression slot it gave me both special attacks I wanted (mild poison and dizzy
) and a ranged attack.

Generally speaking agression will give you special 1 and psych will give you special 2 (though not always, sometimes it goes strange)
To ensure you get the specials you want use VHQ or HQ samples in aggression and psych. (it helps to use the same quality so that the specials dont overwrite each other)
Obviously nothing is exact epecially not when it comes to special moves but in general following those steps will get you what you're looking for.

What I've found, is that if you use a higher quality DNA in Agression than the other slots, both specials in Agression will stick. More often than not if Psycology and Agression are same quality, and others are lower, you'll get one special from Psychology and one from Agression. I'm sure theres some math that could show what is causing specials in the second scenario to fail ocassionally.. but out of the last 100 or so templates I've had 100% sucess in getting specials to stick useing the first method.

ahh ok got ya. One thing I found that I found is interesting is people posted how they could not create a creature that did 45-50 dmg but I managed to create a creature that is lvl 9 and does 70-75 dmg. I put Dalyrake samples into a genetic template and then addedit into a Kwi skin. Has a mild poison and a dizzy attack on it with a ranged attack course I don't believe I can use the ranged attack because of the Kwi skin.

Getting specials, and especially ranged, to stick depends as much on the quality of samples as which slot you put them in.Ranged will only very rarely stick if you're not using MBE-level samples. Slot3 generally controls special1, slot 4 special2, and slot 5 has a weight on both, as was mentioned before. If you're not a MBE, you wont be able to get VHQ samples, and if you dont have sampling IV you wont be able to even get HQ - above average (AA) is the best you can get, so if thats the case try to use those samples in slots 345. I've also noticed that even if you use VHQ in slot 5 and lesser quality samples in slot 3 and 4, if you have an emptyspecial for special1 in slot 3 or special2 in slot 4, it can still overwrite the specials from sample 5; in other words, empty specials still count as "specials" for the purpose of deciding whichslot takes, they're not just a null value.
