Young Malkoc Plainswalker was only one I could sample. First sampling killed it.
Only got a HQ sample, but it was good - 75 kinetic.
Wish I could sample the adults. They are 100 kinetic.
Then found some mutant rancors, but everytime I got within 90 meters they detected me.
I was reading further thoughout this post and it seems that it's impossible now for those of us not Master Scouts to sample Mutant Rancor DNA? I have +mask scent clothing +28.

the adults are way too high lvl to sample.... besides, 60% is the highest kinetic anyways
and the mutant rancors.... there's a very complicated trick to sampling them
exploration IV, +25 in mask scent clothes, some jawa beer, and crawling up BEHIND them (yes, even though you are scented, they can still "see" you)
you'll still have some trouble, but at least a chance

MRs are notoriously good smellers =)
and only the YMPs are under CL75, we cant sample anything over that. Kinetic resist in our pets is capped at 60% anyway, so even if you could sample the kinetic-immune ones you'd not be able to get it to transfer to your pets.

Thanks! I'm camped out at the MR camp but we'll see later when done with my EQ raid.

I mastered BE once and im about mastered again. I used to sample mutants all the time but i had a full suit of camo and mask scent BE clothing. I've never had to crawl up on any animal just make sure your camo and mask scent skill mods are really high and you should have less problems getting mutant DNA. I found that mutant DNA is the highest for HAM and attack stats. My personal best pet was a 73rd level angler from mutant DNA. I gave it to a friend that had a full suit of taming clothing and he tamed it but couldnt use it but he should of been able to if the mod on the clothing was working right and that is another subject for a dfferent forum. lol

No, the taming clothing affects *taming* and nothing else. It does *not* affect the max pet level (or whatever that skill mod is called). The only situations where taming bonus will help you is
a) you will fail less teaching commands (big deal right?)
b) you will be able to tame higher level "vicious" creatures then you would otherwise be able to, assuming they are still under your max pet level.

Im not a master scout and yet have successfully sampled mutant rancs in the past
Mask scent clothes are a must as with jawa beer and my method is get behind one go prone and crawl up behind it, I usually prefer areas with lots of trees and brush Ive had better success rates this way
Ive even smapled the mutants in the caves this way 5 was my best from caves

your right about the taming clothing, but what is the sense of having taming clothes to tame higher level creatures only to get them to your data pad and not be able to use them cause there either above your max pet level or above the 70th level max. Kinda usless to even have it in the game.

I'm working on BE for the second time, so my experience in Mutants (were my favorite creatures to sample as I really enjoyed making higher level pets) happened before the new food - I did it with Exploration IV and +25 MS clothing.
This is how I did it - as soon as the Mutants were on my radar I went prone (already masked), and crawled to 15 meters - if they started moving, I froze - it's true that they seem to see you, or if they start moving around they tend to detect you more often. The key to my sucess was crawling prone, and never running, never following them (i.e. don't put them on follow and chase after them, walk if you need to get closer, and take very slow steps). I would position myself in the middle of at least 2 of them, so I didn't have to move to sample. If I failed on one Mutant, I went to the next. I don't know if this has been tested, since I've been out of the loop for quite a while - but I had better luck if I waited about 1 min 30 seconds before sampling the same Mutant (either success or fail).
As you can see, I was very patient and took quite a long time to get samples, however I rarely died sampling Mutants (this was before I knew about getting doc buffs and armor), and I failed in sampling more than I got aggro'd.
