Thread: Slots for specials

I'm seeing contradictory information regarding which slots are the most likely to contribute their specials to the final template. I understand that the chance of a special coming through is partially based on DNA quality and that each slot has a chance of contributing.

My problem is that the FAQ says "The general belief is that by preference special 1 comes from aggression and special 2 from psychology." while the author of that part of the FAQ says in another post (here: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=bio-engineer&message.id=58946) that "Psychology (~42%) is the largest contributor to special 1. ... Aggression (~42%) is the largest contributor to special 2."

So, my question is, is there a consensus which slot has the greatest chance of affecting which special?

Specials are always the most difficult part (and CL)... I use SP1 in Aggression, SP2 in Psych, and it works FAIRLY often...

I'm so tired of timing out on the boards while typing messages. To make matters worse, formatting doesn't seem to come through.

Rather than answering your question directly, I'll share my specific results. But first, I'll mention that armor affects which slots specials come from. Without armor, the preference for both specials seems to be the aggressions slot. Ranged comes from mental.

Here are my results using my own notation, which is in the same order as the crafting process:

---Y--------W--------M-------U--------A-------Clone
--VHQ----VHQ-----HQ-----VHQ----VHQ-----HQ-Ar1
Crip Stk-Opn Wd-Stun St--Str Poi--Opn Wd--none
--none---Dizzy St-Str Dis--Str Dis- Dizzy St--Dizzy St

--HQ------HQ------VHQ----VHQ-----HQ-----HQ Ar1
Str Poi--Opn Wd-Stun Stk-Opn Wd-Str Poi---none
Str Dis--Dizzy St-Str Dis--Dizzy St-Str Dis---Str Dis

-VHQ------AA------VHQ-----HQ----VHQ-----HQ Ar1
Str Poi--Opn Wd-Stun Stk-Opn Wd-Str Poi---Str Poi
Str Dis--Dizzy St-Str Dis--Dizzy St-Str Dis---Str Dis

--VHQ-----AA-----HQ-----VHQ----VHQ------HQ-no armor-same results X 2
Crip Stk-Opn Wd-Stun St--Str Poi--Opn Wd--Str Poi
--none---Dizzy St-Str Dis--Str Dis- Dizzy St--Str Dis

--VHQ-----AA------AA-----VHQ----VHQ------HQ-no armor
Crip Stk-Opn Wd-Stun St--Str Poi--Opn Wd---Str Poi
--none---Dizzy St-Str Dis--Str Dis- Dizzy St---Str Dis

--HQ------HQ------VHQ----VHQ----VHQ------HQ Ar1
Str Poi--Opn Wd-Stun Stk-Opn Wd-Str Poi----Str Poi
Str Dis--Dizzy St-Str Dis--Dizzy St-Str Dis----Str Dis

As you can see, it looks like quality has more effect than slot. Without armor, it seems to take both specials from aggression. With armor, the specials seem to come from whichever slot has the highest quality of the last two slots. In cases in which they are equal, my results are all over everywhere, so perhaps someone else has a more consistent trend.

I can help you with that, I think... and it HAS been getting bad, hasn't it?

timeout workaround

let me know if that clears you up.

Thank you so much. It does tend to put us all in foul moods to spend time composing a message that might actually be readable, then to lose it to the timeout.

For me, it resulted in me being far less concise with my ideas.

I find a good rule of thumb is just to use DNA with both specials you want in slot 5, and then keep slot 5's quality at least one rank higher than slot 3 and 4's. I get my specials to come through pretty much automatically then, especially when 5 is VHQ. And when it doesnt, well, just use that DNA in the next generation in slot 1 and 2 and breed out the empty slot =)

In my experience, tho I've never extensively tested it...

If you have VHQ or HQ (both the same) in slot 4 and 5 you will get special 1 from slot 5 and special 2 from slot 4.
However, if slot 4 is higher quality than slot 5 you may get both specials from slot 4 and vice versa.

If you use AA in Slot 5 but use VHQ in Slot 1 there is a good chance that Special 1 will come from Slot 1, same for special 2 with slots 3 and 4.

Ranged can come usually from slot 3 or 4 depending on the quality of the DNA
