Well let me start by saying, I am not a holo grinder...

Now let me give you my sitation.... I have been hammering out CM and working on skills to start the commando tree. I am in a PvP army and we should be quite the force when we are ready... I was asked to pick up BE b/c of the neccesity of it for taking terminals or something. I dunno, never dun it myself.

Well I picked up BE, and now I am falling in love with it... hardcore... but I dun wanna give up CM or commando, and know I can't keep them all. But perhaps down the line I will pick it up as a long term thing... my question is this though. I don't like tailor and don't care much about BE clothes, but I do like BE pets. Do you have to be a CH to really do anything with the BE pets you create? I really enjoy the BE crafting and think that will be half the fun.

Grrr... I guess my only quetsion is the CH thing. Beyond that, I am just erked b/c I like the profession so much and I haven't even progressed past the initial training. Lol.

Not sure what to tell you other than to sympathize and say I really wished they didn't make us choose between crafting and combat, but that's the way the game is. BE takes so many skill points that you're certainly not going to be a BE and be an elite combat machine like you were probably accostomed to. To make effective pets you really need at least 0-0-4-4, and probably some points in the clone tree to give you some variety (2-0-4-4 or 3-0-4-4 or whatever). And after you've sunk that may skill points into it, you'll probably find it's worth it to just finish the tree off and master it, as you'll be able to make better pets in the end.

With no CH, you really won't be able to use any of the impressive pets that you make. You're stuck with the real dregs. However, the way the system is now (until it gets nerfed) you can own some pretty amazing tanks, with very low CH skill. My other character owned a CL 13 pet which had like a lot of ham, but obviously healing it was an issue with no armor or resists. Then at CL 21 he now owns an armored pet that is just an amazing tank and is practically untouchable as far as taking damage. Of course having such pets doesn't really help you without impressive combat skills of your own to back it up, so you're kind of stuck I think.

So I dunno. We all have that same dilemma and deal with it differently. My solution: make one toon devoted to combat, make one devoted to crafting so I can enjoy both. I'd rather be good at one thing than suck at 2 things, but everyone has to make that choice.

That's some really good advice. I doubt I will just hop into making another toon. I like mine too much and would never play the other. But I think I will keep BE in the back of my mind for a while. I doubt I will be a massive fighting bad@$$ for ever, so I can fall back on BE and enjoy it with CH. I know some BE's on radiant that make insane cash selling BE pets to CH
