Ok not to sound like a dufus, but I've heard and read repeatedly the term "skin". This skin means that or this or what have you.

When I read "skin" I think either a UI feature or the hide off a mob and unfortunately much of what's posted in the FAQ section is written for folks with a PHD in biological chemistry development....

Can someone please explain to me in layman's terms what that means? Thanks!

We use the term "skin" to denote what you choose the clone to be crafted as. Such as, you want a mount so you choose the Kaadu "skin", or you want something no one else uses so you choose the Vir Vir "skin". It just refers to what creature type you select in the crafting process. Hope that helps

CM's are like nukes. You have them just incase you need them, but as soon as you start using yours the other guys start using theirs and everything goes to hell

I was a little confused about that as well at first. In 3D terms, the 'skin' would be the texture that goes over the 'mesh' for the animal. 'Skin', as used here I think began as a misunderstanding of the 3D terminology.

Cephalo, I started explaining it like that, but I got too technical and had to start over. Lol, for the life of me I couldn't simplify it, reading your post makes me laugh at myself for not writing that first.

/bonk self At least someone got it simplified!

I think this started because virtually none of the final creatures stats (aggresive, maybe speed?) come from which clone "skin" you put the template into. So it's derivation from graphics is kinda understandable I think.

Oh contrare....the "skin"has alot to do with CL my good friend. It has been stated that some skins are aggressive or non-aggressive and that there is a minimum CL for each creature skin. A Rancor skin is aggresive as well as the Kimogila skin. I found it odd that I could use all Kreetle DNA and get a level 35 Rancor with an 85 HAM, not 850, not 8500...85. And then I did some research on the "skins". Anyway, the skin does make a difference in CL.

Does anyone ever get the request for a Non-CH Rancor.....lol? I do all the time. Sorry Non-CH's.....That one is reserved for the CH crowd

I just wanted to be clear that the "skin" does not affect the HAM, or damage or anything like that.....just the CL.

This is strange. I've made creatures (the first to come to mind is a dewback) which were lower than the supposed "minimum CL" as listed in a few places (most notably Talthazar's BE site - http://bioengineer.talthazar.com/clonei.htm). It reports 10 as the lower limit for a dewback and I've made a CL 9 one before.

I did make a kimo with yard trash DNA just after I got master and it turned out to be CL40 (with 400 HAM). Which does match the bottom limit listed there.
