complexly re-stated: at no time during combat involving you or the target creature may you initiate DNA sampling. once sampling has begun, the creature then becomes un-attackable to anyone for the duration of the sampling. instiancas have been known where a creature WILL attack in the middle of the sampling process due to some other circumstances (failed maskscent or camo check for instance). once the creature initiates combat, teh sampling will fail unless combat is somehow concluded before the sampling process has completed. If the BE takes damage sampling will stop immediatly.
