I'm not a BE...well not yet at any rate...

I have been thinking about picking up BE for a number of reasons...HQ terminals (something interesting to do in the GCW)
tissues for my own use as a chef

and probably the biggest reason...the ability to make pets, but I haven't picked up BE because of the continuous nerfing, and lack of any way of telling what is and is not "legal" in the eyes of the devs.

I've been reading the boards about the cl 10 pets becoming invalid, etc., and while I can understand SOE needing to nerf what they feel is overpowered for BE pets (seeing everyone and their brother with ch quality pets before the ch nerf was silly)...what I don't understand is why they can't have a visible "point" system when creating pets...

for example:

light armor = 10 points
1% kinetic resist = 2 points
1% energy resist = 2 points
1% any other resist = 1 point
100 hp = 2 points
strong poison = 5 points
medium poison = 3 points
etc, etc, etc...

basically outline in a guide or post or thread or whatever a point value for every facet of pet creation. everything from aggressive creatures, to ranged attacks, to special attacks, etc.

once that is done, outline a point per level system.

so it could look like this:
cl 1-10: 10 points per level
cl 11-20 11 points per level
etc.

an increased number of points per level would provide more strategy for ch's as they could have a considerably more powerful pet...but only have 1 out...or have 3 pets at 1/4 or less the strength of that one uber high level pet...but have strength of numbers and a wider variety of specials (if the commands work).

this could easily be shown in a crafting window and updated (i.e. complexity goes up every time you experiment so this shouldn't be much more difficult). this way when a dev says pets are overpowered...we need to weaken them, they could say "we are considering reducing the points per level for cl 1-10 to 9 instead of 10". this would allow BE's to create a wider variety of pets (since the devs are so keen on increasing variety), and having strong poison on a cl 10 pet wouldn't be overpowered as the resists would suck, as would the hp...basically it'd be a pet that'd keel over if a spineflap stared at it too hard, etc. it would also allow for more constructive debates as existing BE's on TC and the live servers could see which pets would still be legal after said change went in, and could make pets that would be legal under the new system instead of wasting time and resources on pets that will become illegal.

theres also a secondary motive for me posting this...if BE's are happier it makes it easier for chefs to get tissue schems, or a steady supply of tissues....as they have to spend less time trying to find the meaning of life...er how to make a good "legal" cl 10 pet.

Would be nice that's for sure, but don't see it ever happening. As for as the added bonus I'm a BE looking for a chef, but getting tired of looking think I'm making my alt a chef.

the problem with the crafting system is, at this point, there is no conclusive documentation on the crafting system......

it has been said that a fortitude of over 100 will yield over cl10, but i've made a few with stats about that that came out to cl10... also, in one craft, he can create these "overpowered" pets which means even the devs have no real clue what should be valid and what shouldn't

eventually BE, DE, and CH will be so useless no one will bother with it..... but probably by then the space expansion will be out and everyone will occupied with those nerfs and problems to worry about it

/le sigh
