If your trying it for fun casual gameplay dont do it yet. At least 1/3 of the tissues are either impossible to make (need milk, mollusk, or fish) or worthless (chefs dont use our tissues for the few items they can sell). About 1/4 of all creatures u can make can still only be used as furniture (not tamable by anyone)and the majority of the rest are crap compared to wild versions. Also the creature creation system is still being worked out, its not very easy to comprehend. Hopefully the major issues will be worked out soon. We shall see....

I was wanting to start a bio-engineer... But i've heard there are lots of glitches with it...

Should i start one to toy around with or just forget it for a while?

Seconded. They already nerfed the DNA sample system once. Getting the XP is already much harder than it used to be and I wouldn't be surprised if they made it even harder. Plus you can expect to die quite a bit going up the DNA sampling tree, so you want to do it before the new death penalties kick in.

Can we only sample DNA for which we have the templates? For instance, novice BE starts with Jax, Eopie, and Kaada DNA templates. Can I only sample from those creatures? And how does sampling work, is it a radial menu option? A command? While I'm generally pleased with the game, they could've paid more attention to this aspect.

As far as the xp goes, there are plans to improve it in the cloning line. I don't remember which thread it's in, this was mentioned over a month ago, but the BE dev admitted that xp is usually granted based on the materials used and the xp for templates was not correctly taking into account the extra time and effort that sampling costs. So there actually should be some improvement there when everything else is changed. Though as usual we didn't get any specifics, so I don't know how much of a boost we're going to see there. He still suggested that we sell templates to get user xp out of them, which set off a whole series of posts about how that's not how we usually do things. If we go through the trouble to make the template, why not complete the creature? So,no one knows if the xp change will be enough or not.
