I have just started this profession. I was on my way to Master BH with a little CH on the side, but thanks to the infinite wisdom of the holocron, I am now ginding the BE trade. It is okay, ever since I bought my first creature from a BE I thought it was a cool profession, but I was so far into BH I would have never dropped the skills. Anyway, what should I train first? I am thinking Tissue Engineering I, but what next do I just go straight up that branch or do I fill each level before moving to the next set of branches? Let me know what you "old pros" think this noob should do.

Thanks

If you want to make money than you want eng tech, that way once you hit eng tech 3 you can start making decent items thus grinding while making money. If you take quantity of blueprints over the quality of the items you'll find you can't really sell them plus the only way to get exp will be to grind them intentionally.

Right now I am not in money making mode, I just want to be able to level as fast as I can. I have the credits and resources to sustain me until I can make quality products. What is the fastest route to leveling? Tissue Eng branch or one of the others?

I just ground micronutrient suppliments for days...didn't really matter what tree I went up, as you get it at novice. I never grinded anything different except for dna templates while sampling, and it got me there in about 2.5 weeks, and I was playing another char the whole time too. Just get a ton of meat and flora, and just sit there for a couple hours a day and practice them.

The general consensus on the two most efficient items to grind, if you can get the resources, are:

  • Micronutrient Supplements (novice item) - 20 organic, 15 flora foodand 15 meat

  • Scent Camouflage (tissue engineering 2) -20 meat, 20 wood, 20 flowers

Scent Camo requires use of a food/med tool &personal crafting station (droid or one in a player structure), which adds an extra step in the grind process. Micronuts don't, you can do that anywhere with a food/med tool. Once you get the rhythm down, you can be going at it with 4 or 5 tools at a time. Micronuts (which is what I grind on when I'm waiting for ships and such) give 105xp each in practice mode and you can use the same resource in the organic slot as you do for the flora food, so you only need two stacks of grind resources. From Novice to Master, if you grind solely on Micronutrient Supplements, it will take 4,858 combines in practice mode, using 72,870 units of meat and 170,030 units of flora food (if you use the flora food for both the organic and flora food slots). That's to get through the Cloning, Tissues and Techniques lines. Then you'll need to DNA sample things to get through DNA Sampling. I recommend getting crates of Muon Gold and sampling something big that's non-aggro and doesn't deathblow. I did piket longhorns on Dantooine, myself. Make Blurrg templates and deeds out of that and you can sample those from your pack. The Muon Gold lets you sample for 10 minutes straight, whereas without it you can only get in about 3 DNA samples before being 'too tired.' Or at least, that's how it works for me. Depends on your Mind/Focus/Willpower stats.

Search through the forums here for a crafting grind macro and instructions on using it so that all you have to do is double-click resources. It's boring as hell, mind you, and for the time being there's a bug where crit fails don't eat your resources when making tissues (like micronuts and scent camos). If you do it by hand, you can still get the xp for those resources. If you use the macro, it'll blow right by that and you won't.

You can grind the clones, experimentation, and tissues line with a big pile of meat and grain using a good micronutrient macro. This is the easy and tedious part. Rate limiting steps are meat availability and grains. I would suggest talking to docs who harvest wheat on Lok and ask them if the present shift improves, would they sell in bulk all their old shift wheat for grinding. I think you could pick up great big stacks this way. As far as meat goes, you really should talk to a few PAs and ask them if they have any large garbage stacks of meat they wish to unload. I got around 20k meat this way at 2c per. If you are rich you can just buy what you need and grind away. Most are not rich and need to actually produce something to recoup losses. I would suggest petstim A's and vit A's on the bazaar to supplement income.

THe dna part is going to be harder. Some say using muon gold and sampling the low level yard trash creatures around places like Moenia is the way to go. What is optimal however is to find a spawn of something you succeed on 75% of the time...since the time between samples is fixed, your biggest xp yield is on the hardest thing you can reliably sample. Towards DNA 3 I was going to Endor and getting way more sample xp on the stuff around there, even with the running around and finding stuff and the incaps than I did by hanging around town. Apprentice xp can be had by standing around with some master profession in your title near the trainer in a big town and grinding micron nuts there, periodically announcing your ability to train.

If you are just passing through the profession, try to be nice to those who are making a living at it. Look up other BE's and sell your dna samples to them for money...they will probably help you out with advice and training. If you are going to market high end pets and stims, learn what a good fair market value is for that item and sell it for that.

Here's a link to the crafting macro. Wish I had known about this sooner.
