Thread: A lifesaver macro for sampling

I made over 40K of DNA sampling exp yesterday on Endor and Naboo, mostly sampling aggro mobs.
I died repeatedly until I managed to make this macro and get the pauses correct, and not once after that. Not rocket science, but it really helps.

Mask scent, ride up to the mobs slowly on your bike, and follow them. Target the mob of choice and use this macro:

/dismount;
/pause 1;
/sampleDNA;
/pause 2;
/tar speed; (if you are using a speederbike or swoop)
/pause 1;
/mount

The pauses are necessary to allow the server to recognize one action before the next, and have been trimmed to their absolute minimum; remove them at your own risk. I know the macro could be made to auto-target the nearest mob, but it is not always the one I want to sample, and this gives me a bit more control.
You will be mounted on your bike and ready to run if the mob takes umbrage at your poking it in the tail with a needle, and more than likely to get away without a trip to the clone tanks.

BTW, a similar macro with /maskscent in place of the /sampleDNA and no pause between it an /tar speed can make keeping scentmask up much easier when using a bike to explore.

It's not wise to bring you vehicles near to any mobs which are especially ferocious or have any kind of DOT attacks. They will aggro to your bike sometimes after you are dead and if they are in a group when one of them uses an AoE DOT then once they are are done killing each other they'll turn on your vehicles as being the next nearest 'pet' to someone they already aggro'd to.

I lost one of my bikes already thanks to some mantigrue screechers and their **edit** plague strike causing them to aggro to everything in the area.

If I take a speeder because of time issues, I park it far away so it doesn't get trashed. Typically I ride my mount(an armored kaadu).

It is a good macro however.

Now get your butt over to the Naritus forum and write a Nimby Chronicle you slacker.

The macro can be adapted to a pet/mount also, simply using the name of the pet in the /tar command.

I know that the vehicles can be trashed by an aggro mob, I have had one kicked to death by a Kaadu, however the chances of escaping death and spending less on re-insuring more than make up the cost of a vehicle, and I try, whenever possible, to keep an extra deed, as well as a crate of basic camps, in my backpack, or stashed in a droid (the bike deed. stashing all your camps in a droid is rather a catch-22 )

This is great! I've got one for dismounting and sampling, but have always had to retarget the bike myself to get back on it. Thanks for the info!

I've never lost a bike, and have sampled from them exclusively for at least 3 weeks. But, I have a higher health and action than most crafter types (wookie), so maybe thats why.

It does sound like a good macro to me. I ride my bike sometimes but I park a bit away and run back to it when I get aggroed. But then I haven't gone sampling rancors or anything else particularily nasty yet either.

And I agree that we haven't heard from Nimby in awhile. I need to buy some lok wheat and tat fiberplast too!!

Its a very handy macro but when it comes to mutant rancors, im afraid it gets a bit more tricky. With them i have to crawl up to them to avoid detection

Your better off doing it as:

/dismount;
/pause 1;
/sampleDNA;
/pause 2;
/mount (speederbike);

as you'll be back on the bike faster. I can even modify it to target the nearest critter for you if your interested, but I found that annoying if you have two sitting on top of each other and it keeps autoselecting one (I "rotate sample" tokeep theaggro down).

I've found no difference in sucess (or lack of) between sampling on a bike or on foot. The only difference is "bike sampling" is a little safer (you'll still dieunless you wear armour.....like I don't and a little more expensive.

Wish they'd add "Edit":

/dismount;
/pause 1;
/sampleDNA;
/pause 1; <===Only need a /pause 1 here, not two.
/mount (speederbike);

Actually, this is the exact macro I use as cut from macros.txt:

/pause 0.25;/dismount;/pause .5;/sampledna;/pause 1;/mount Speederbike;
