Anyone have any pointers for a 'wet-behind-the-ears' bio engineer ?

I completed the DNA Sampling line in about 20 hours of sampling.

This is what I did:

Sampled all the trash around the BE trainer in Theed until I hit sampling 2.

Once I hit Sampling 2, I went to Dantooine, and took Bol Missions until I reached Sampling 4. Bols give approximately 334 DNA Sampling XP and Bol Pack Runners give approximately 299 DNA Sampling XP. Sample the 3 that are out, pop the lair once, sample the other 3, and move on to your next mission. You will be there in no time!

I sampled the small ez stuff outside of theed til i got finished with lvl one, and from then on i went to dantooine, but i sampled pikets which give roughly 370 xp per piket, once u are through 3 u should get somewhere between 1-5 samples per piket... Thats just what i did hope it helps... also pikets like bols do not deathblow which is a good thing!!!

hope that was some help

dantooine is quite dangerous
im sampling dna from beetles in krayt graveyard, they gives 347xp. There is lots of mobs close eachother. Dont have to run from place to place, dont have to take any missions.

Ello, Try sampling Sarnaff in Corellia (south from Coronet). These give 350-430 EXP depending on whether you are samplinga bull or not...

Giant Baz Nitch on Dath give 420 a piece and rarely fail after dna 1.

Poison filled arachne on Endor after dna 1. They also give about 400 xp a piece and the dna makes good animals.

Once I completed dna 3 I hit blood stained mereks for about 400 xp a piece, blood stained boar wolf for about 580 a piece and hilltop gurreck hunters for about 550 a piece all on Endor. Their dna is good stuff too.

Might also want to invest in some mask scent type bio-clothing...and don't forget a crate or 2 of muon gold of course.

Bolle Bols - 310 exp per sample, and they are non agressive and relatively slow. Use the macro I posted for sampling with a bike and you will rarely take a hit, and you can find them on Naboo.

I have found plains tusk cats to be decent as well, though you want to look for the outlying members of the pack, as they will chase you a good distance when aggro and a pack of 2 or 3 might incap you if several get good hits.

Faamba give 385 or better exp per sample and are also relatively slow if you are sampling from a bike, and you can quite often get 3 or 4 samples from one before it falls over and crushes you. Bolle Bols often yield 2 samples, but rarely more than 3 per mob, though that is about 4k exp for a 5-member lair/herd.

I am sample II right now and my problem is that it takes me 5 sample attempts to get a DNA and that only happens 50% of the time. The other 50% I get aggroed and all the other bols come attacking. The other problem I have is that DNA takes so much **edit** room. Where the hell am I supposed to keep all my samples?

As a Novice, I sampled trash around Tyrena until I reached Sampling II. I then sampled fambaas. These give just under 400 xp per sample. Plus, it was somewhat satisfying to leave a trail of fambaa corpses behind me.

For Sampling IV, I went to Dathomir and sampled anything that moved. Nucuous kamuriths are especially nice, giving just under 600 xp per sample. Other good choices include brackasets, as they don't DB. I also sampled rancors, if there were brackaset herds nearby. (Why is this relevant? Because if the rancor attacked me, I'd kite it through the brackasets, which would attack the rancor and distract it.)

"The other problem I have is that DNA takes so much **edit** room. Where the hell am I supposed to keep all my samples?"

I have 3 droids with good storage devices. See if you can find a DE who is not busy and order them with food/chem stations and storage. Use the stations to experiment on DNA samples in the wild and then store the templates in the droid.

"How to sample?"

You must learn how critters talk. I am MCH and studied animalspeak for some time. Critters say three things:

? which means "Are you a threat?"

!which means "I think you may indeed be a threat!"

|||| which means "Put that needle away or I am going to go agro all over you!"

You want to stand still any time a critter is talking. Wait til they are not talking and not walking. Approach them from behind. (Not sure why this is important but it is!) Lubricate the needle. (OK, I made that up.) Sample away.

Of course you do remember to only Walk around critters, always maskscent, and always display the Peace sign. When taming pets, it seemed to be important to be unarmed, but with sampling that does not seem to be as big a factor.

Halfway to Sampling 2, I am sampling CL 30 critters consistently for 300 dna xp per beastie. Instead of a bike I have two CL 35 pets called and set to guard me. Either let me sample or say hello to my two little friends!

I am sorry I guess I don't understand the lingo.. By trash.. do you mean the low end creatures i.e. corellian butterflies...

The only things that I can sample and half way expect to get a sample on a regular basis gives only 92 xp per creature. Is this what I can expect until 2 or 3... Anything higher than that and I fail EVERY TIME.

Personally I always peace and do not have a weapon drawn. If a creature turns on you then you run until it stops following. Also I only go alone because if I'm in a group they insist of fighting it. Why would you want the creature of value to be killed even if it gets mad at you. It is a bit like being a Creature Handler and wanting to tame a rare baby. If it turns on you do you kill the baby and hope to come by it again. Babies are as precious to a CH as a Rare 70 Level Boss Creature is to a MBE.
