Thread: Creature skins....do they matter?
I suspect it doesnt matter in the slightest, it's merely cosmetic...but I really don't have any idea.
As far as stats, it doesn't matter.
For movement and the ability to get through tight gaps it matters a great deal, since these are dependant on the skin.
This is why cats are far more popular with those in the know than the 'CL70 Kimo' - a Kimo is a big, slow beastie and can't get through city gates, unlike a Razor Cat that can keep up with a landspeeder and go anywhere.
Skins **DO** matter.
Skins affect the following:
1. minuium CL
2. aggro
3. speed/movement
4. ranged attack
5. mounts
6. color
7. stats
As far as ranged attacks are concerned I have not confirmed this myself. However I've read that unless you use a skin that has a wild counterpart with ranged attack the clone won't be able to use ranged. **If this is not the case would someone please correct me**
As far as stats I have noticed that some skins tend to"modify" certain attributes. Weather that is the result of the skin itself or a more random result in creating the creature I cannot say 100%
Lastly, some people have said that certain creatures loose their custom color once tamed. Never happen to me but that is what I heard.
He tamed it successfuly then stored it and called it back out.
And I believe I've made creatures which have no ranged in the wild with ranged based on the template but I have no particular examples in mind.
I made a couple of gurrcats with ranged attacks(got one in my Datapad now), and as far as I know, no gurrcat Ive ever seen has ranged attacks.
Thanks for the info though people, 'preicate it.

Ranged attack is a product of the template and has NOTHING to do with the skin you choose. I have made eopies with ranged, gnorts with ranged and armor, gurrcats with ranged and medium poison, gurrecks at creature level 10. The stats are determind by the generic template and not the body type.
Skins matter in regards to their speed. A cat body will trek behind a speeder where a gnort won't, even if both critters have identical stats. Some body types are naturally aggressive in the wild. When these are used for non-creature handler clones they will be aggressive as well. Some body types also have creature level minimums. You can not make a kimogila available to non-creature handlers for example.
There are a few animals with bugged color templates. You can color the animal but when its tamed the color disappears and the animal revert to the color naturally found in the wild.

By the way a Gurrcat is not an aggro skin. Just some higher breeds of them are.
Well I got that info (that the gurrcat was aggro) from a BE thread. It must be mistaken, any idea where I can get valid info on skin min levels and aggro?
I pulled this right of the FAQ sticky thread at the top of this forum.
Red is aggressive, green is not. The challenge level = creature level and its the minimums those animals can be crafted at. Why you would make a CL2 angler that only a creature handler can use I'm not sure but you can do it.

The holo-grinders get some hard edged comments and very little respect. I try not to hold grinding against them since its SOE that made grinders out of the path to Jedi.
