Thread: Meat Post-CU
The PvE system as it stands is far from acceptable, the level system producing some stupid results. Give it a month or 2 to let this whole thing sink in, then we can estimate.

I have no scout. I have a list of about 20 hunters that I buy meat from. With the new PvE, it seems that meats are going to be much harder to gather. How is this going to affect the prices being charged for meats and prices of foods requiring meats?
It seems that the cost of meat is going to go up and the prices of foods will go down. Even if foods are viable in the CU, can it be profitable to be a chef?
Actually, meat might not go up in price.
What is likely to happen: Instead of hunting solo, some hunters will gather together to hit places where the good meat is spawning, but are too difficult to solo. With the new harvest bonus you get for grouping, they will collect even more meat, especially since each can harvest once from the same creature.
At least I think this is likely to happen. Time will tell.
This worried me also as my main char is a 12pt chef.
I took my rifleman/ranger out last night with one guild buddy who is a swordsman. The two of us roamed around Endor with no problem what-so-ever. We could not wade into 6 critters and lay waste to them with an area attack but we were able to pretty easily take on 2 to 3 creatures at a time with little to no worry In just a short time I collected 6K of insect meat I was after and my guildmate, with only Hunting I, was able to collect over 4K (due to being grouped with me). So around 11k of insect meat in a VERY short time while just out roaming around.
Of course rancors/carn meat might be a different story and may require slightly larger groups....but my fear that meat would become hard to get and uber expensive is somewhat less now after playing around last night.
On a side note....on that same trip last night a 3rd guildmate joined us and we took on a Gorax. Gorax were prior to the CU about 420K HAM. Now the Gorax we ran into last night was only 18K HAM. He really packs a punch now however and/or our armor/defenses were not as good.....we almost had him the first time but he was able to kill all three of us. On a second run out from the cloning center we used slightly different tactics and the 3 of us were able to take him down with really no problem this time. All of this was done with no medical buffs.
The sky is falling, the sky is falling......is what I have been hearing about the CU. I can tell you, while things are VERY different in both crafting and combat things are NOT THAT BAD and people just need to get out and try things out for awhile before complaining and coming up with worst case scenerios. I see people in the forums talking about how bad things are and they are leaving the game and many of them had not even been into the live CU yet to see what it was all about. Amazing.
Ok, enough soap box. Meat should still be available so I would not worry. Will our foods still be as popular? I am not sure on that yet. I can tell you that I had 20 crates of Ithorian Mist on my vendor (pre-CU Defense vs Dizzy and popular) these converted to Fire Resist and Fire Absorbtion! Ugh, I was ready to just delete them instead of relisting them and taking up vendor space. But I tossed them up anyway. Later that night my alt toon, the rifleman/ranger, dueled a CM in our city and I found out all about a new CM skill called Fire Bomb! A nice molotov cocktail they can toss on you....and the smell of mon cal burning over an open fire is not pretty! Needless to say I had some of my Ithorian on me and it put out the flames very quickly after they had already been burning for a good 2-3 min. So, I am guessing while some foods look to now be worthless we need to wait and see what becomes needed/popluar. Here a food/drink I figured would be worthless is probably gonig to have some value post-CU. The fact is pre-CU we had foods nobody wanted and post-CU will be the same...the names and what they do change but the basic approach/facts will stay the same.
One change may actually make meat and other creature resources more abundant: terminal missions now produce creatures at your just above your combat level, regardless of what type they are. Right now I'm combat level 71. I took a tusk cat mission, and all of the tusk cats were level 71-73. Hard to kill, but 400-500 units per harvest.
It dumbs down resource hunting, which diminishes the game for players like me who enjoyed the challenge of finding the right creatures. But it should make creature resources more abundant and, I'd speculate, even REDUCE the prices. The difficulty of amassing large quantities was a big price factor before (ie. Tatooine dwarf nuna meat = unaffordable) and may simply be gone now.
Took my TKM, master scout out with 5 guildies lasttwo nights in group hunting trips on Dant. We did lots of pickets as it turns out. I almost always harvested the meat. I was grinding ranger pre cu, but gee, scouting xp maxes at 70k, I need 125k for novice ranger, and more than that to move up the ranger trees. So, I am getting no scouting xp for all my hravesting now lol. Can you same major bug... AND THEY STILL HAVEN'T FIXED IT lol.
Anyway, to the point of the post. In thetwo outings I went on, gathering herb meat (picket), I have now aver 80k of meat. Yep, over 80k of meat in two 3 hour hunting sessions. BTW, this is the meat that I alone harvested asmaster scout. My guildies with scout were getting the same amounts pretty much if they had hunting IV.Iwas getting like 400 units per picket! I think creature resources will be way easier to obtain post cu, assuming peeps hang on to their scouting/ranger skills, which I am not so sure about now. The obvious problem here is, if it's so easy to get meat now, the prices will fall, and thus, many rangers/scouts will be forcred to find other ways (i.e. combat) to make money. IMO, there is a great benefit to being a double elite combat prof (CL80) now. Will peeps keep ranger, with it's higher sp requirement to get (master scout),or simply take on another pure combat prof via respec. I was going TKM/ranger pre-cu and am now leaning towards TKM/sword. BTW, Ihave beengrinding swords so I can respec it to ranger since I can not grind ranger lol. But the sowrds gives me some nice combat skills so now I wonder if I will follow through with ranger?
Hoping it gets better....
Answer from a Ranger here, looking for news on the food bugs you already know about...

I cant verify this information though since my only toons are a non combat Merchant/BE and a Padawan who would have a hard time fighting his way out of a paper bag at this point.

I am not worried about the ability to harvest meat, but I am concerned for the Scout/Rangers who make their money from it...prices are going to be pretty low...but then I think this is good for the whole economy.
Thank gawd, having been a Doctor that crafted buffs before, I was worried that the increased demands for meat would make my new BE buff crafter worthless. It is good to hear that creature resources, which were impossible to get before, are now easier than ever. Only sad think is, I still got meat from my vet reward (of almost perfect avian) that is soon to run out, it's too bad that it's resource amount could not be increased to cmpensate for the increase in demand. also, I had 2 million in buffs that are now worthless

It's definitely true. We were killing level 70+ humbabas on Talus, and level 65 banthas and rontos on Tatooine. These things all drop over 300 units of resource each, so stacks get big in a hurry.
