As a pretty much pure crafter, being an MBE/Master Chef, with the survey line from artisan and the exploration line from scout which is really needed to sample DNA, I don't have the SP left over to have marksman or brawler at the novice level, let alone a combat line that would give me a better chance in a very unfriendly galaxy.
So I need protection out there as a mere level 18, but I'm much safer than most pure crafters, thanks to scout boxes.
Still, I wonder why BEs got certed for recon armor, weighted towards energy damage, when it's pretty obvious that we need more kinetic protection, since we're out there getting VERY close to creatures which overwhelmingly deal natural kinetic damage, that is, use what amount to unarmed attacks on us if we have a crit fail when poking with our needles. Wouldn't battle have made more sense? It's what the doctors and CMs wear.
Then again I think of MBHs out there in assault armor, weighted toward melee, and they're primarily concerned with dealing with energy damage weapon wielding Jedi, and NPCs, for that matter.

I'm sure part of the certs come from appearance... since assault armor includes mandalorian and BH armor, it begs to be used by the profession that shares the name of... BOUNTY HUNTER armor... and I think we all remember a BH or two whose 'signature' armor was mandalorian.
as for effectiveness? I'd prefer to see targets matched to armor.
since BioE deals almost exclusively with creature mobs, who deal kinetic damage, it'd make sense to see kinetic resistance in our cert.
however, since 'recon armor' is designed for light weight and freedom of movement (whether ingame stats support this theory is another discussion entirely), it makes sense for BioE's, we who walk the worlds with nothing more menacing than a needle, to use this 'light' armor.
again... I'd rather we see more benefit from our armor. until then, let's give a small thanks for armor, and for the option to respec IN and OUT of the profession.
I think anyone who has mastered this profession (or crafting doctors) can appreciate this.

That's a great thought. Personally, I'd like the devs to fix the crafting bugs before any other "help" is given to the BEs
Of course, if they do add some kinetic armor cert for us, I can drop the master carbineer I picked up so I'd be a CL57 and not die quite as often.
