You can only extract from the deed. You can't deed tamed pets.

I am MCH/MBE. I'm a bit confused at why I can pull a DNA sample from creatures I make but not creatures I have tamed. What's the difference? Wouldn't it make sence that once I tame the creature, I should be capable of extracting DNA rather than simply releaseing it when I'm done. It seems that it would be very useful to tame, and extract DNA rather than simply destroying it when I want to get it off my datapad to make room for another creature. And to take it a step furthur, make the quality of the DNA relative to the creatures lvl. Thus one could not simply tame babies all day for DNA, but you could tame and sit on the creatures until they are full grown. Rewards for such patience would be very high quality DNA stats.
Just a tought. Maybe I'm missing something.

Way back when, you used to be able to extract DNA from pets. The problem was the pets didn't die and they didn't aggro. Therefore, BE's could sample DNA for xp in the comfort of their own home, over and over again until they were completed with the sample tree.
This is why you can't sample from a tamed pet.

Well, there needs to be risk when dna sampling both to prevent having an "unlimited dna supply", and to justify the dna sampling skills that we have. Thus there needs to be a percentage chance that you kill anything that you sample. If you allow sampling of tamed pets, you would therefore have to somehow account for the perma-death of such pets, and account for the griefing potential of doing such a thing etc.
To me, although it makes sense that we'd be able to sample tamed pets on a "common-sense" kind of level, it just doesn't seem like the benefit of implementing such a thing would justify the complexity that such a system would need to have. Especially given all the other cool stuff that we want

That makes sence. Had I thought on it a bit harder, that would have been evident. I guess I simply assumed that if I exact DNA from my pet and it died, that was it. Which I would have no issues with. If I pull DNA from my pet and he croaks, that should be it for my pet. That would at least create a worth to tamed creatures other than mounts. I would really love to be able to tame a bay creature and let it grow to adult size (especially db creatures) and be able to pull a DNA sample or two before he died.
Im really frustrated that as a MCH/MBE my CL is only 57. I have to be babysat to get any high end DNA. I have yet to successfully extract DNA from a creature 80+ even with an 80 in my group. Not that it matters much, because lvl 50 extracted DNA yields pets no-one can use anyway. What a time to be CH/BE... both have bugs a page long... sigh...
Hide and wait I suppose.

in fact, way back when we could sample DNA from ANY pet deed... which meant that anyone with a public house (or shop) could lose their display pets to wandering BioE's. also, the rancor in Jabba's Palace used to allow sampling.
