Thread: 2 year absence, pet crafting question

I appologize if this question has been recently addressed and answered. In browsing the forums people are using lingo I'm unfamiliar with after 2 years and I can hardly understand what people are saying any longer.

I am a Master Bio-Engineer on Chilastra. I quit the game almost two years ago because many aspects of the game were fairly broken. My friend explained that issues have been fixed and we decided to play once again. Today I sampled the best DNA I could (soloing mind you, I imagine what I got was only fair DNA) and crafted a Rancor with 373 hp doing 17-135 dmg. Um. . . I have nearly 10x that amount of hp and can do nearly 10x the damage. Am I wrong to assume that BE is as broken (or nearly so) as it was 2 years ago? Have positive changes been made to the class which were removed due to the recent combat upgrade? Am I to assume that I've simply done something wrong and it's possible to produce properly proportioned creatures?

This is one of the primary issues to my having quit the game 2 years ago (although the recent combat upgrade thank heavens may keep me to stay). Creatures that a bio-engineer can craft were always far below the standard of creatures caught in the wild making BE a primarily useless class. I have wanted to be a BE from the start, making red and yellow rancors and such has always been a dream (and didn't exist before, thank you Sony Online) but if my creatures are useful only as decorations I can't see a reason to stick with the class.

Can anyone explain what happened with this issue in the two years I've been gone? Am I to assume nothing at all has changed? Is this something that will shortly be fixed? Am I doing something wrong with my crafting?

Thank you

Pet crafting is broken. It has to do with armor class for pets. They broke the system of conversion for DNA and are trying to fix it.

Yes, unfortunately pet crafting is broken for now. The good news is that Creature Handlers are now viable combat templates, which means once they fix pet crafting, business should pick up big time.

If you have any pet deeds from back when you quit the game those are probably worth gold now.

I'm betting you were a BE before the last BE revamp, which the CU completely broke. Bio-Engineer crafting got INCREDIBLY complex and rewarding about a year ago. It has now been broken with the CU and we are awaiting a publish size fix.

I'd suggest you try mixing some of the fair dna you describe with some samples off of Endor or Dathomir to get an idea of what a decent damage pet can be - also review some of the complex guides from pre-CU.

meh, I came back after two years with nothing but the clothes on my back, a rebel blaster I can no longer use, and a deed to a solar harvester. But you'd not want my old pet deeds, they are almost no different from what they are now which is why I assumed that nothing at all had changed. I thank you for the replies, I will try and go through the bio-engineer faq pages, I can't make much sense of the abbreviations though.

No different than they are now? You mean they all have Medium Armor and are uncallable now?

Actually some of your OLD pre-revamppet deeds may be considered VERY valuable to some CHs now. Those pets avoided the last two 'pet balance' nerfs, including CURB conversions. You on Intrepid?

Creature handlers are viable only if they have an animal that does more damage than they do. If you own an animal that does less damage than you do, the second you fire a shot the mob breaks aggro with your pet and attacks you.

Minimum damage is much more of a factor because of this dynamic. If you make your pet attack an animal that is a couple levels higherthan the pet the amount of damage is minimal. Therefore you will always draw aggro when you fire your first shot.

Animals have lost much of their tanking value. Pet combos are also much less of a value. It is all about the highest level with the highest HAM with the highest damage now. Not that we can make animals with this new system but that's the dynamics of creature handler.

This is not entirely true. Your point of view sees combat through the lense of solo-ing. In a group scenario having pets out as you and other members wail on a mob, everything the pet does is "utility damage". You just cannot make judgement on the viability of a profession by comparing them to how they were used pre-CURB, which is what you are doing -- seeing pets purely as tanks. Once you see them more as ticking DoTs, you'll see their value more.

In a group I had 2 pets out, dealing 900+ damage every other second, in addition to my 1200+ damage from my pistol. That's like having a 900 damage ticking DoT (even better than what a combat medic can do), especially since the mob will ignore the pets sometimes. Your DPS alone increases substantially using pets.
