Thread: Will you specialize in certain creatures?

A good friend of mine that is a CH specializes in cats. He is very knowledgeable about this popular type of creature and has done very well for himself getting them for people.

It occurs to me that this might be the way to go. There are SO many creatures out there to sample from and a decent variety to create now, one could pick a creature type and go with it. Reptiles, mounts, cute creatures (which HUGE pointy teeth...), small creatures, huge creatures, etc. Heck you could even specialize in creatures with a high kinetic resistance or that poison.

Personally, I'm going in a slightly different direction. I'm going to spend a couple of weeks after the patch comes out on Yavin learning more about the animals of Yavin. Get an idea of what I can get from each of them as far as resistances, specials and attributes. I spent a lot of time there in Beta and even wrote a guide to the planet, can't wait to get back and really start my post-doctoral work.

Specializing will simply limit your enjoyment of a system that has such broad implications, in the case of species we only have as many types as we have template for and in the case of resistances it depends on what job it's going to fill. In the end I'm just going to see if there's ways to breed in and out certain resistances. As fir Yavin4, most of the critters on there don't have much in the way of resistances. A good chunk of them have none at all infact.

If this new system is all its cracked up to be, I'll prolly turn my attention to either PvE pets or PvP pets as they are two very different animals.... wondering how special-on-demand is going to influence play styles particularly with dizzy/kd or poison attacks.

It'll take me a week or so of fiddling to see if I'll keep on being a BE... gotta see how pets are in the new system mostly because thats about the only reason I'm still a BE... it fits nicely for skill points with CH. If pets suck, then I'll be revamping my whole character into either a buffbot (dancer/musician) or play around with PvP combinations (area of teh game I haven't really explored a ton).

I do believe specialists will have some pretty good market capabilities.

I'll specialize for sure, but not in the same way that the original poster considered the word. Instead of a particular type of creature or planet of origin, I'll be going for particular CL beasts (and, after I'm more comfortable with what CHs are willing to pay for, specials of various types etc).

I certainly am of no mind to tell you, or anyone, how to play your char. However, I'd seriously reconsider locking yourself into one particular planet.. I sincerly believe that to make the "best" of the uber-pets, be they the lvl 70 Beast of a pair of lvl 35 guys, you're going to need to visit a potentially wide variety of the "ace" planets, if not all of them.

But then, having no first-hand experience with it yet, I could be completely wrong

with the revamp to CH skills, you guys and gals will be getting tells for the new max CL levels for each box of the CH profession, not to mention all the non CH people out there who will find their oldpets uncontrolable

the other area that might be called to specialize in are the special attacks. The knockdown/dizzy combo mentioned would be keen, also the area bleeds, diseases, and poisons (btw strong poison specials tick for 100 damage) would be good for PvP.

I've been threatening to convert to Dim-Uism and make godlike banthas. Sounds like a fun roleplay trip, though I don't know how I will tolerate being stepped on constantly. Might be a short-lived idea.
