Thread: Future Bio-Engineer: Template Question

First thanks to any Bio-Engy's that have taken the time to help an up and comer. My main debate with creating my alt as a Bio-Engy is what to take along with it.

Right now the template I've been bashing around is as follows:
Brawler: 0-0-4-0
Medic: 0-0-0-4
Master Scout
Ranger: 0-0-4-0
Swordsman: 0-4-0-3
Master Bio-Engineer

This assits in two ways. One, I'll have the area track to find the hard to get DNA and two I'll be able to use the player track to find the Jedi for my main Bounty Hunter.

The Swordsman was placed there so that the character would have good Kinetic & Blunt type damage from Uber PowerHammers and Scythes.

So to break it down my main questions are as follows:
1- Is the above listed Template Usable, can it be successful for being a Bio-Engineer ?

2- How effective is the Tracking ability under Ranger? Is it greatly helpful or just ease the work?

3- How does Camo. compare to Mask Sceant? Is the former far greater then the later and if so by how much?

4- Playing as a Wookiee Avatar should any HAM points be readjusted to anything beyond combat based?

5- If I were to pick up Creature Handler, which skills under that tree would be the most viable?

Once again thanks to any that offer answers. Any help would be greatly appriciated.
Arc'Ane.

1. dunno. sounds kinda neat. youd have to try it out, imo.

2. track is pretty handy, saves alot of time.

3. dunno, hear its better.

4. dunno.

5. for CH. if you want the highest level. go straight up in the trees. for example 4-4-0-0 gives you control over lvl36 creatures. 4-4-1-1 would give you control only lvl40 creatures. its best to try to hit the top boxes. and just have a master creature handler train it, if you arent doing master creature handler.

hope i helped in some way =)

It depends. The biggest problem I see with this template is that you're missing the artisan stuff (dunno if you have another toon with this or not). This character will have no way to survey for the stuff you'll need to make tissues, and no way to sell the stuff that you make on a vendor.

2- How effective is the Tracking ability under Ranger? Is it greatly helpful or just ease the work?
It's somewhat useful. It certainly is filled with unrealized potential. With tracking, it's not like you're going to be able to go out and instantly find, say, a bark mite burrower queen. The range is too small and it gives faulty results too often, and you are usually better off just randomly meandering around with a speeder than tracking by foot. The thing it will do for you though is that when you are somewhere, say sampling something, you can do a quick area track of the area before you leave, and often find things that you might otherwise have missed.

3- How does Camo. compare to Mask Sceant? Is the former far greater then the later and if so by how much?

With this template you won't get any cammo ability, which is a good thing since it's mostly useless. For cammo to be of any use at all to you, you'd need master ranger level cammo (Dath cammo kits). At master ranger level, yea, cammo works better, but to be honest, exploration 4 level mask scent (with mask scent enhanced clothing) is plenty for sampling anything other than mutant rancors, and even mutant rancors are possible, just drink jawa beer.

4- Playing as a Wookiee Avatar should any HAM points be readjusted to anything beyond combat based?

If the point of all that combat/scout skill is for this toon to be a hunter, then I'd probably leave it weighted towards that. Dna sampling hits your mind pool pretty hard, so leave some points in that, don't completely gimp it, but you can compensate for that by drinking brandy or getting mind buffs or whatnot.

I'm a BE/MTK/CH

- BE to make Chef/Tailor additives, pets, and help slicebases

- MTK to kick butt and kill stuff to harvest

- CH to train pets

I only focus on making non-CH pets, mostly for friends/PA. So I've gone up the last tree of CH (Management) to enable me to train mounts, which tend tobe the most popular. Other commands I can train at 0-0-0-4include Store, Follow, Follow Other, Attack, Friend, and Group. Folks complan about lack of "Stay" but just tell them to /pet the thing to get it to sit.

I'm a Wookiee and loving this template.

First thanks for the quick replys.

I can see that this is going to be a give and take profession, one that will need some major tweaking to get something that is suitable as a Bio-Engineer and Tracking.

I realize that my original template lacks the Camo ability I was merely curious to see the opinions of thoose that have or had it and what they thought about it. But from the answers so far it looks like that Mask Sceant and a good brew will do me just fine.

The real kicker here is the toss up between Creature Handler and other skills. I know that as a Bio-Engy I can design creatures that fit my level but will I be able to make better one's, significantly better bearing in mind the coming Nerf-Bat hit, if I were to pick up some Creature Handler?

At any rate keep up the good answers, any information is good information and the more that is out there the greater the interest.
