Well after establishing a Wookiee alternate character this past weekend I've had one heck of a time trying to figure out what professions work well and balance out with Master Bio-Engineer.

From what I have been told in game and read off of the boards it seems that the Ranger profession is nice but not a nessicity, that some form of Artisan will be needed to gather certain types of resources, and that a good combat profession is nearly as important as the MBE title itself.

As result of all of this and a good deal of thinking I think I've come up with a suitable template for my Alt:

Brawler: 0-0-4-0

Medic: 0-0-0-4

Scout: 4-0-4-0

Creature Handler: 0-4-1-4

Swordsman: 0-4-3-4

Master Bio-Engineer

So now my question is simple to all established and current Master Bio-Engineers, will this template work?

Are there any flaws in this (beyond the lack of Vendors and artisan skills which I can get through Guild :smileywink

As always I appricate any responses and constructive feedback. Lets keep the information flowing and help out the new guys.

Ive gone Ranger/BE with my BE character. (with a little let over into medic)

Ive never had a combat proffession past one handed 3 in brawler in the 11? months ive played.

Only problem with your template (and its not nessacarily a problem) is only 4 in explore may give trouble for sampling the highest level creatures, like mutant rancor's and such, i had problems before getting master scout, and seeing everything creature level is also very handy (altho you can look it up on swgcreatures.com anyway)

I was a Master Ranger for a while. I loved the profession and I miss not being able to look at all the stats for a creature as I bump into them. I also think it goes well with the solitary feeling I get when DNA sampling.

You don't need a combat profession to be a good BE, just run I have no combat skills at all, but I am almost master CH, so I've got a few killer mounts that help me get away. It can get a bit dull however, as you can't do much when your friends go out hunting. If you master ranger though, your tracking skills can come in handy.

As for mask scent. You don't need to Master scout, if you get some good clothes and there's also a drink that ups your mask scent level. When I'm fully tooled up I can sneak up on Mutant Rancors without a problem. Getting the sample is another story

So to sum up my ramblings You don't need a combat profession for BE, but it's handy and allows you to do some of the other content (Geo Caves etc.). Master Ranger is fun and I should stop now.

First of all thanks for all the replys, I truly do appricate all the adivce people are willing to give. As such I suppose it would only be fair to present some counterpoints and perhaps areas that need to be clairified.

The most prevelant issue here seems to be how Mask Scent fits into all of this. I've realized from the start that either Mask Scent, or if I chose to go Ranger Camo, would play a very big role in how the character developed. As result I've already gotten a Bio-Engineered Bandolier and Wookie Shoulder Pad each with +15 Mask Sceant/Camo (Yes I know it caps at +25) and Jawa Beer (The drink that increases this skill). From discussion I have had it seems that many Bio-Engys are very effective with just these skills.

The Tracking skill, or at least what I have been told from many Bio-Engys on Tarq is nice to have but not a nessictiy. It's good in the sense that while going out hunting/harvesting/sampling one could at random scan the area but beyond that it really doesn't give much of an advantage.

Combat was one of the things that I happened to read much about, that one is often in a lot of danger regaurdless of Scout/Ranger levels and unless they have some way of defending themselves they will be facing the prospect of multiple clones. So it would only be natural that a bio-engineer pick up at least some semblance of combat ability.

As for an overall view I suppose the only thing I am debating is trading off Creature Handler and some Swordsman skills for Ranger 0-0-4-0. No, this is not for the bonuses to Mask Sceant but rather the ability to Track Jedi for my Main Trandoshan character.

Once agian thanks for the replys and I hope to see many more. Though I must admit I am quite fond of my original template as it leaves me combat effective and able to almost fully train the creatures that I create.
