I have seen frequent references to people calling themselves '12 point Bio-Engineer' or Armorsmith, weaponsmith whatever... anyone care to clear up for me exactly what this is? And if you do tell me, can you also advise how I can become one. I am presently a Master BE and this whole 12 point thing obviously carries some cache... thanks

There are clothing attachments that will give you additional experimentation skills in most of the crafting professions. In the case of Bio-Engineers, you would need to find tapes for medicine experimentation. Each 10 points that you find and apply to your clothes will give you 1 more point for experimentation. Therefore, you will need to get a total of +20 tapes to get your 12 point status.

If you are planning to make tissues for chefs and tailors, don't worry about getting any medical experimentation tapes. You will max out experimentation with the 10 points you get by default.
If you are planning to make stims and enhancers, then 12 points will make a difference. It will manifest itself primarily as extra charges per pack in the final product.
I have never done pet crafting as a serious business -- only dabbled with it for fun. But my experience is that you don't want to spend all of your 10 points to begin with or you end up exceeding CL limits (either the hard limit of 70, or desired limits such as when making twins or tripplets). So my guess is 12 points doesn't help much in general pet crafting, though may be nice for specific recipes. But a more seasoned pet crafter should really comment on this.

I'd just like to add that the extra points are only really applicable in med crafting...and only to get some more charges on each stim or enhancer. Since tissues can be maxed with 10pts and almost all of the pet recipes I see require no experimentation, the extra point for those products are wasted.

I think 12 points are only necessary when you have more than one line to experiment on. Medicines, particularly.
