Thread: Can any creature be engineered to be CL10 or less?

I'm writing an article about pets for entertainers and one of the points I'm touching on is the subject of bio-engineered pets. I know very little about the subject, so I hope you'll forgive any obvious ignorance in advance. *heh*

From reading the stickies and browsing the forum, I've gleaned the information that combat level is primarily dependent upon the DNA "recipe". Using low-level DNA in the right places will reduce the strength of the template so that the resulting hybrid is weak enough for a non-CH to command.

What I can't seem to find is the information on how flexible the system is. I've a few questions that I'm sure will have simple answers for those in the know.

  1. Is there a limit to the "downsizing" process? That is, are certain templates so strong to begin with that they can't be "downsized" to CL10? I'm thinking in particular about the Master level animals such as the rancor, veermock, and woolemander. Anything hominid has great potential as an entertainer pet because, looks aside, their tricks tend to be the gyrating, ground-thumping, hand-waving animations that look like the pet is "playing along" with it's owner as she plays or dances.

  2. Non-CH characters are not able to accept "vicious" animals tamed from the wild. Are bio-engineered animals based on "vicious" templates still considered to be "vicious" and thus uncallable by a non-CH?

  3. What's the average asking price of a CL10 creature deed? Does it matter if the creature is exotic? The threads I've read so far seem to imply that you can make a creature without actually starting with any of that creature's DNA. You just need the template. If I've misunderstood and you need at least one sample from the type of creature you're engineering, what would be a ballpark asking price for an exotic like a rancor?

On another note, while the "tiny CL10" syndrome may be a problem for making mounts, for entertainer pets it's actually a desirable trait. Most entertainers who want pets want them small. They like them to be "cute" and to be big enough to notice but not large enough to crowd out the performers or draw all of the attention away from the performers.

Thanks for your help. If there's any questions about CL10 pets that I've failed to ask but that you think entertaienrs would be interested to know about, feel free to volunteer the info.

Some BE's (such as myself) actually specialize in level 10's. We have a listing of BE's by galaxy stickied at the top if Entertainers want to search there for a BE on their galaxy to make them their dream level 10. And I don't know if it says it in the article Kao quoted but the agressiveness isn't sticking at the moment so we can make any skin at all that goes down to level 10 even if aggressive. They may or may not take that away so potential customers should be warned but in all honesty.... I don't think they will... consideringthe rate they fix BE bugs (not at all) and we don't even know if it *is* a bug at the moment.

Yours,

Dor

Ah, that's VERY interesting. I'm sure there'd be some interest in CL10 Woolemanders if entertainers just knew that it was possible to tame one.

Again, thanks for the info. Very helpful.
