Thread: Anyone Read Blairs Blog?

The immortal words from Blairs Blog (Posted by Rogue_5) are:

"Finally, it is worth repeating that even when Combat Upgrade goes "live" it is not finished - we will continue to refine and polish the experience for some months to come."

Does this not strike anyone else as a bit lame?...to me the undertext is:

"We don't have time to fix things before we are forced to release this in time for our marketing guys to cash in on EP3. We instead hope to be doing weekly patches to sort things after we find out what we've really f**ked up along the way".

Am I just imagining this? Or do they really think they can insult our intelligence and get away with it?

I also like how they put "live" in inverted commas GJ guys! It indictes to me that they think of "live" as a big big test center.

I see the need for the CURB. I welcome the rebalancing of the combat Professions, but I do not support the wanton neglect of the crafting professions. I understand that this is meant to be an upgrade for the combat professions, but the combat relies on the equipment (well...it used to before the level system removed the need for equipment. We might as well run around in n00b clothes with survival knives as anything 5 levels over ours is instant death even with a 50mill Powerhammer)

For a while I've been saying that depedning upon the way the CURB is progressing Ill delete/keep my accounts...well my MDoc/MBe alt account is up for renewal on the 16 of May, 10 days after the CURB release date, and as it stands, that account will not be renewed.

Here's a pleas to the devs...give me a reason to keep my account...I want to keep it...but I'm not going to waste my money on unfinished s***e that destroys my current playstyle. (Just a note here...Has anyone EVER (and I mean ever) seen a Dev post a response to a comment on the BE forum?)

If this is the primary method of communication between the devs and the players, why aren't they communicating?

I will be graduating this summer from a course that should give me the skills to start a career in game programming. I am absolutely dumbfounded at the development of SWG. I want to know if its an inept dev tea, or an inept person pulling the strings and preventing the Dev tem from doing a good job. Either way, the quality is not there.

I can say that they are indeed trying to cash in on new people for EP3...ROTW was annonced that it would have a new combat system--they cant NOT put it in, I am sure that it wasnt inteneded tobe this far not complete...because as it goes not a whole lota people that are currently in game are liking it- they had no idea that this would happen, they thought well as a starter they might like X but to many people are not likeing X....I am not sure how your Vents and in game talk is on whatever server you are on are going but mostly the primary amount of people that I speak to HATE IT...and screeming in vent about it...

EARTH to SOE- ya need to communicate that its something that cant be helped its pressure from the guys over your head to push this out WAY before you would like to. Some communication of WHAT WILL happen would be nice and may just be what people need so they can understand. I see you Trying to do that with this new letter but just a tad more detail...even a swoop on over to each proffession board and a DIRECT indication that You Understand what we are feeling....and a casual it will be addressed...even if you dont do what everyone is asking-I understand that it cant Always be done...but some kind of indication that you UNDERSTAND and are listening/reading the posts....I think this would help a lot of people.

I for one like a lot of the changes...I can see where its going...and so long as it gets there I will be happy...I am an optimistic person soo I just HOPE they live up to it.

Everyone KNOWS that this upgrade is going to be pushed out before it is ready-hello we have all been testing it-....the Devs were just saying Yup you are right...For how many complants there are it is Obviously not complete...So hold tight we know that you know that it cant be helped...please bare with us and it will be fixed in the end...

Of course mean while....we all pay our 15 each month to play something that is being fixed Daily in Live situation. However this is No different then when the game launched from what I hear...so i guess tip your glass to the Patch of the Day.

"Finally, it is worth repeating that even when Combat Upgrade goes "live" it is not finished - we will continue to refine and polish the experience for some months to come."

The original game went live this way. The concept of putting an unfinished game on live servers is nothing new. It isn't something unique to SOE either. Regardless, this doesn't make the practice a good move when refurbishing an already established game. The driver is pure simple economics.

SWGis one of the most subscribed to game. What isn't being told by this statement is many of the subscriptions are alts for already established players. The hard slap SOE will feel is when those alts are cancelled. I already cancelled my alt. My master BE will be around long enough to make a clear decision whether this is the game I wish to continue paying for.

If the game improves I may bring my alt back. If that game continues its path to becoming Ever-Wars I will move on to something else. I was playing games long before SWG and I'll be playing games long after SWG.

BTW, I saw one post by the BE dev way back when the profession was undergoing the big revamp. TH also posted about CL10 uber pets. That was well over a year ago. We can have some great discussions on this forum but, based on past performance from the developers, I hold little hope a dev will ever post here regarding our concerns.

I've done beta testing for several on-line MMORPG's and most of them seem to be released unfinished. I did a closed alpha and beta for a real-time strategy game that went on for a year. Then after the release of the game, it changed yet again within 3-4 months based on feed back from players. SWG did the same thing after it was released. Remember the corpse chasing? Buffs, mounts, vehicles...lots of thing changed. Some good, some bad.

Any game that does not change will loose older players and gain new ones. They have to change the game, mostly add in new stuff, to keep intrest in the game. I'm not sure, but I haven't seen any game go through as massive change as we're facing though. most of the whining I've seen on the forums have been complaints about how things have changed, not about the CU itsself.

The CU seems to making a whole new game and I'm trying to look at it that way. I'm going to take a long hard look at it now on TC and post CU. My account goes until June, and I'll decide then. But until that time, I'll give them the benifit of an honest look at changes.

Thats just it...I applaud the change...but I am deeply upset by the marginalisation of the crafting professions just to make it easier for them to balance the combat. I also am deeply upset at the lack of Dev communication.

I know things must change, I want things to change...but they just aren't doing a high quality job. The way they are going about it is what upsets me.

They do what they can in the timeframe given to them. The devs arnt stupid they know they are screwing over certain professions in favor of other ones but what else can they do? What would you do if you worked at taco bell and your bosstold you to make 300 tacos in one hour? Then told you quality didnt matter. Well if you were 95% certain you could find another job you might just give yourboss the finger and walk out the front door (2 devs did this). But if you werent so sure you could find another job youdthrow together alot of really crappy tacos and keep your job.
