Thread: Anyone Read Blairs Blog?
"Finally, it is worth repeating that even when Combat Upgrade goes "live" it is not finished - we will continue to refine and polish the experience for some months to come."
Does this not strike anyone else as a bit lame?...to me the undertext is:
"We don't have time to fix things before we are forced to release this in time for our marketing guys to cash in on EP3. We instead hope to be doing weekly patches to sort things after we find out what we've really f**ked up along the way".
Am I just imagining this? Or do they really think they can insult our intelligence and get away with it?
I also like how they put "live" in inverted commas
I see the need for the CURB. I welcome the rebalancing of the combat Professions, but I do not support the wanton neglect of the crafting professions. I understand that this is meant to be an upgrade for the combat professions, but the combat relies on the equipment (well...it used to before the level system removed the need for equipment. We might as well run around in n00b clothes with survival knives as anything 5 levels over ours is instant death even with a 50mill Powerhammer)
For a while I've been saying that depedning upon the way the CURB is progressing Ill delete/keep my accounts...well my MDoc/MBe alt account is up for renewal on the 16 of May, 10 days after the CURB release date, and as it stands, that account will not be renewed.
Here's a pleas to the devs...give me a reason to keep my account...I want to keep it...but I'm not going to waste my money on unfinished s***e that destroys my current playstyle. (Just a note here...Has anyone EVER (and I mean ever) seen a Dev post a response to a comment on the BE forum?)
If this is the primary method of communication between the devs and the players, why aren't they communicating?
I will be graduating this summer from a course that should give me the skills to start a career in game programming. I am absolutely dumbfounded at the development of SWG. I want to know if its an inept dev tea, or an inept person pulling the strings and preventing the Dev tem from doing a good job. Either way, the quality is not there.

I did a closed alpha and beta for a real-time strategy game that went on for a year. Then after the release of the game, it changed yet again within 3-4 months based on feed back from players. SWG did the same thing after it was released. Remember the corpse chasing? Buffs, mounts, vehicles...lots of thing changed. Some good, some bad.Any game that does not change will loose older players and gain new ones. They have to change the game, mostly add in new stuff, to keep intrest in the game. I'm not sure, but I haven't seen any game go through as massive change as we're facing though. most of the whining I've seen on the forums have been complaints about how things have changed, not about the CU itsself. The CU seems to making a whole new game and I'm trying to look at it that way. I'm going to take a long hard look at it now on TC and post CU. My account goes until June, and I'll decide then. But until that time, I'll give them the benifit of an honest look at changes.
Thats just it...I applaud the change...but I am deeply upset by the marginalisation of the crafting professions just to make it easier for them to balance the combat. I also am deeply upset at the lack of Dev communication.
I know things must change, I want things to change...but they just aren't doing a high quality job. The way they are going about it is what upsets me.

They do what they can in the timeframe given to them. The devs arnt stupid they know they are screwing over certain professions in favor of other ones but what else can they do? What would you do if you worked at taco bell and your bosstold you to make 300 tacos in one hour? Then told you quality didnt matter. Well if you were 95% certain you could find another job you might just give yourboss the finger and walk out the front door (2 devs did this). But if you werent so sure you could find another job youdthrow together alot of really crappy tacos and keep your job.
2 devs quit Taco Bell?
