Thread: Thoughts on the nerf
Ok, I've long been saying that we needed this to rebalance things and put some sanity back in the BE profession. So kudos to the nefage. When you can create non-CH pets that are that powerful it invalidates the entire CH profession which is obviously a very bad thing.
That being said. This now puts us all in a very uncomfortable position. Some of the pets I created I'm already finding out are invalid. Didn't knowingly exploit or use bugged dna, or whatnot, but they are invalid nonetheless. I didn't have big auctions for them, or change hundreds of k, and can afford to give full refunds, but they were bugged nonetheless. So ok, we give refunds for the bugged ones, lose out on a lot of hard work, ok, I can accept this. But now what? There has been a major credibility breach here. Both from our customers to BE's, and from BE's to our developer and the system he bungled... I mean created.A customer has every right to ask with each new pet they purchase: "how do I know this is not bugged?". And quite rightly so. I can use all first generation dna. I can use creatures that nobody has reported a problem on, I can do a sanity check on it to see if the stats "seem right". But that's about all as a BE that you can do. The whole point is to make as good of a creature as you can and push the envelope, so what now? How do we as BE's have any confidence at all that next week we'll get some other arbitrary changes that invalidates all the new pets that we make this week? This is all pretty discourating and disheartening really. We *really really reallly* need some guidelines from our dev that gives us some measure of confidence about what we're doing going forward.
Like so many things in SWG this has been botched in many ways
1) They obviously did not test their changes nearly enough
2) They did not react quick enough - there were tons of posts about this weeks ago
3) They never published guidelines about what is acceptable or what they are trying to do
4) A knee jerk patch has caused many problems for BE, CH, and non CH customers
5) The system is now broken as you canproduce broken pets and have no idea they are broken until after the fact
No planning, No forethought, No communication, Poor execution, knee jerk reactions yielding poor fixes and causing more broken functions
Well, I just sent out my mail to everyone who bought a pet from me since the patch, offering a refund to anyone who has a bugged pet. I can only hope that people are honest and only claim the refund if their pet was really bugged...
Oh well, it's at least nice that the air is clear and that in theory everything we make should now be properly statted.
