5 star for an amusing topiuc but kindly explain where in the pre-requisites a BE has the skills and experience to even operatea rifle. Remember that we're dealing with a system of logic whereby if you don't understand the basis of a skill then you cannot have anything to do with it. Maybe if they allowed you to operate one with novice marksman as well then I'd agree but the fact is that sometimes you just get irritating mobs who won't stay still and merek are terrible for not staying in the same spot for long. The fact is though that merek do actually allow you within 15m if you move slowly and don't use maskscent. The trick to catch them once they decide to stop somewhere. In the end you need to actually understand the nature of the animals you're sampling, thats what seperates and master who ground to the top of the profession while locked away ina dark room and a true master who took the time to learn their trade.

Yes, sadly we probably won't get a tranq rifle without some sort of marksman skills. But of course I'm not talking about something that we could kill something with, but merely stop the damn critter from moving so much. Perhaps more of a trap then a rifle, that could requirethe trapping tree of scout.Lets say, for example, you have to get within 25m, shoot the tranq. And the critter stays where it is for a maximum of 40 seconds or something. During this 40 seconds it could still be dangerous so you would still have to sneak up to take the sample. At the moment the only thing I can think of that they could add to give immobility that we currently have pre-requisites for (as I don't think they'd be able to just suddenly add an extra tree needed for novice BE) would be some sort of anti-petstim. But of course, if you're close enough to use a stim you're close enough to sample DNA.
Just another one of those things that would make a BE's life so much easier. But of course, if the BE's life was that much easier then it wouldn't be as rewarding and so forth so on...
And yes, I went back later on to get some normal Harvester DNA and had no trouble whatsoever. They only moved a minimum of 20 - 30m and seemed to go in an odd little patern. Would normally return to a spot they were once at if you waited. Kinda reminded me of crop circles... Anyway, the only reason I bothered with the post was because this was the first time I've ever had a creature move more then 40m away from me, and three times at that. 30m I can handle because you can get close enough quick enough to start a sample by the time they decide to move again. 60m seems to be just out of reach though...

One of the things which IS within the realm of bio-engineers would be the ability to apply a mild sedative that relaxes the creature making it laydown or at least be in an idle state for an extended period of time. Naturally this needs to be applied from within 5m however it won't be a problem as you'd just walk over, drug them and proceed to take a dna sample.

Having a mild sedative would certainly help in some cases, but it also might eliminate the danger of DNA sampling. I for one love being a Bio-Engineer because I like the rush of creeping within breathing distance of a creature who could kill me on the spot (or close by depending on how quick I am with burst run) knowing that at any time it could turn around and I'd be toast. I'd say its probably one of the funnest aspects of the profession (except when the creature decides to turn and run 60m each time you get close.... grr... damn merek...). Perhaps the solution does belong in another profession. As stated before, tranq rifle could be a marksman certifacation. Which could greatly help a Bio-Engineer if he/she chose to pursue marksman and use it. Although I suppose any sort of sulotion ultimately winds up being optional in the end. So a wookiee enjoys getting his ass handed to him by a mutant rancor every now and then, nothing wrong with that.

but then i realize that i have no freaking sample /sigh

Yeah it does suck, but its not that the king isn't as good as the harvestors its that the harvestors are 75% resistant to kinetic and the king is like 35 or 45%.

/ui action turnRant on
...Okay, maybe not so much of a rant as a story of the oddest DNA sampling night I've had in a very long time.
A few nights ago I was off on endor testing the localDNA flavors and everything was going great. Ran into two TMB, 6 Bark Mites, 4 Arachne Widows and a single Arachne Queen (her royalness gave up 4 samples before keeling over). Truely one of the better outings I've had on this planet. Infact the only thing that had really gone wrong so far was that early on a Bark Mite had slapped me disease and it had left me horribly horribly wounded. I had about 100 health to my name by the end of the night. It was about an hour till the server shuts down and I decided to go check out the King Merek Harvester out in the desert, figured I'd been having this good a luck so far might as well see what I can find.
Well, seemed a good idea at the time at least. I arrived to find him in all his glory with all his little minions crawling around. Still had a good amount of time till the server went down and seeing as I only had 100 health I decided I should take it slow and easy. Went prone and started crawling up at about 70m away trying to be as careful as possible. After quite a bit of waiting I made it up to that wonderful spot just 15m away from the king. I stood up and before I could hit the sample button three things happened nearly at once. First mask scent broke, I nearly wet myself, and the king moved that extra inch so it was 16m away and I couldn't sample. So there I am, sweating buckets and cursing my own stupidity at coming here with 100 health and also for not fully pursuing master scout (for the mask scent bonus). Staring Instant Death in the face, praying he doesn't notice me. One hit would pretty much take me out and I'd be done for. Not a good way to end the night. But what does Instant Death do? why he turns around and scuttles 60m away so him and all his little friends can laugh at me while I go prone and crawl through the mud as slow as wookieely possible. But I figure I'm lucky to be alive so I'd try again. Go prone, crawl the 60m. Get within 17m of the king and he scuttles right over my body another 60m in the oposite direction. Sigh. Alright, try again. Crawl all the way back to pretty much right where I was the first time. This time the king is nice enough to let me get close enough, stand, and actually start taking a dna sample before scuttling off 50 - 60m in a random direction. Okay, very funny, jokes on me, now let me shove this needle up your a%# so I can get back to Anchorhead before the server goes down. Crawl the extra 60m and I'm shocked to still see the king standing where he should be. I stand up, start taking a sample and he doesn't move an inch. I think "yes! victory! eat that you spider monkey lookin gnob gobbler!" only to look up and see that familiar red X next to my immensely black health bar we all dread so much.
Well, let me say. I've never hit burst run so fast. Acted on pure instinct (probably a sign I play this game too much) and it was like time stopped just long enough for me to wet myself, hit burst run, and take off in the oposite direction. And I got luckier then a freaking leprauchan with four leafed clovers shoved up his anus. The king got off one hit that did about 80 damage leaving me with a good 20 health to spare when a normal harvester decided to join the fun and whapped him upside the head, they started duking it out while I ran away to my hearts content. After a change of pants I sat down to watch the battle and watch the King get whooped by the normal harvester. I then decided that if he got whooped by one of his own minions then perhaps the DNA wouldn't be worth the trouble anyway and headed back to Anchor.
Anyway, the point of all this is to say that we really do need some sort of tranq gun to immobilize critters. Because there's almost nothing worse then creeping up extremely sneaky like only to have your prey run off just out of reach.

I feel your pain, happens to me all the time. It got real bad after the milk harvesting started to pick up,If it requires a person to stay in range of a critter, the critters do they're level best to lead you straight to any aggro's around.I have even had aggro's lead me to humanoid aggro's. so it's not just you.
