Thread: Good-bye and about the Tissue Calculator

After the culmination of several factors, I surrendered all my BE skills last night. I am not normally one to make these good-bye posts, however I do feel I provide a service to the BE community in the form of my Tissue Calculators, so it is somewhat warrented.

Both the Chef and the Tailor versions will remain available (as long as my bandwidth holds out ). I will also let Juntao from swgcreatures know so he can update the ones he is hosting.

I confirmed the batch and mass bonus ranges last night as one of my last acts, so that should be the "final" update. If I am made aware of any changes I will make them, however since I can no longer test numbers myself, I will only do it after I can verify these changes with other people.

Nancy, as my signature will no longer be plastered all over the BE board, you might wish to add the link to my calculators in the FAQ. I suppose I could do it, but I don't want to encourage people posting nonsense in there (plus it looks a little more official). While you are at it, maybe make mention of the real 50/30/20 forumla which is my other big contribution, and one I consider far more important for BEs to know.

Since I had to bring up my leaving, I will satisfy the curiosity of anyone that wants to know why (if you don't, just skip this ).

1) BE was eating up a lot of personal time. To be a good BE, one must devote an inordinate amount of time to it. While it was time well rewarded, my dearest love was starting to miss me and me her. Both of us are pursuing a new path which will let us spend more time together.

2) Jedi. Maybe I'm silly but I always wanted to try the profession and I can certainly use a second character. Crafting my way there certainly is not possible. Combat looks to be the best way. Even though I won't powergame, my time for BE would be less, and between surrendering BE or CH for the necessary skill points, BE loses out.

3) The vendor changes. Frankly the new system is prohibitive and unfair to us (well you now). Overall it is a good change, but its affects on us obviously were not considered or thought to be inconsquential. We are a special case amongst the crafters and we needed that taken into account.

While I had already decided this was enough of a reason to surrender BE, the "1 point isn't 1 point" comment made me realize the developers honestly do not believe in balance. It explained a lot when I look at the overall game. It made me understand they truly do not see inequalities as gamebreaking problems. So I feel a lot better about going with what will be a fun, although overpowered, profession in place of BE. My hope is one day they realize that balance, or at least equality, is important. Until then I won't torture myself trying to make the system work, I will simply play to have fun.

I will still be around the BE board some, but I doubt I will be posting as much as my current knowledge fades and changes overtake me. I hope to one day return, perhaps as my second character, although I know that will be far in the future.

Good luck everyone.

I'l second that one. I tried to play the game today and actually ended up spending several hours pursuing the following activities instead:

  • Buying Meat and Hide off bazaars

  • Hassling my hunters to bring me more Meat, Milk and Eggs

  • Explaining to several Tailor clients why I can't make Enhanced Myoflex if I haven't got enough eggs.

  • Advertising my current stock on the Trade Forum

  • Explaining to Creature Handlers what I can and cannot do in a CLXX pet.

  • Begging Zadokk to help me figure out some resist problems before my head exploded (We should force him to come back to BE!)

  • Making Schematics and putting runs of tissues on my factories.

  • Explaining to Chefs and Tailors that I have vendors so I don't have to take ordersor make deliveries.

  • Explaining why I don't make Chef Tissues that need Milk or Domesticated meat much...

  • Travelling half way across Tatooine to blow a Zucca lair for a friend who had no combat ability and needed to place 2 harvesters at that spot.

  • Landing in 'TellH3ll' every time I stopped at a bazaar in town with my title showing. (I'm proud of being a BE and shouldn't have to hide to get 5 minutes peace) *grins*

  • Etc., etc., etc...

To any up and coming BEs reading this - Don't let ANYONE tell you that being a BE isn't a demanding job. When I really want peace for a while I have to:

  1. Turn off my Master BE Title

  2. Take the tick out of the 'make this character searchable' box in options

  3. Go /AFK even though I'm really there with a message saying "Please mail me if it's important"

  4. Change my clothes because my armour is very distinctive and too many people recognise me anyway.

I'm glad you're keeping CH, Seiryuu, as I just picked it up (only 0/1/0/1 so far) and dropped BH LLC for it. At least I know you'll still be around for me to ask dumb CH questions to

I hope you have fun with your new combat abilities, and much greater playtime. I may just stock my vendors up and go incognito for the rest of the week to have some fun myself with my new FrankenZadokk production Dewback *grins*

See you around the boards.

The title may be gone but Master BE will always be a part of your character.

I know you really enjoyed being a BE and I'm sorry you had to drop it. I also know (from occationally beingnosy) how much of an asset you've been to the BE community and I'm sure they will all be sorry to see you go. And you certainly made some of the best pets and tissues I've ever seen!

That said, I think we'll both have a lot of fun on our new path. I know I'm looking forward to it!
