I think someone's been pulling your leg hun, you can make a non-Ch mount out of any low level DNA. Sample 5 random low level mobs, max physique and agression and put the rest of the points anywhere you like and you've got a CL8-10 pet than when its grown can be trained as a mount - it wont be able to fight but it'll get you from A to B

A good quick recipe is:
Voritor Dasher-VD-Huurton Pup-HP-HP
max out physique and prowess, and it should be around CL10.

FWIW, I was trying this recipe last night.
Even with no experimentation at all, I was consistently getting CL11. Pretty disappointing.
The only way I could get <= 10 was to go VD-HP-HP-HP-HP, which got me about 2.5k health+action.

If you switch it around to VD HP HP VD HP you can get it to 10 easily

I get CL 10 everytime with VD-VD-HP-HP-HP and 1 point into physique. Get 4.5Kish health and 3kish action.

you have to experiment because, strangely, it lowers the creature level. i wouldn't max them out, i would try 2 physique points and 1 prowess or 1 phys and 1 prow.

if you're popping CL11 with VD VD HP HP HP, don't worry. resample the clones, and recombine them.
you lose a little DNA on most attempts, but if you have:
20 VD DNA
30 HP DNA
and make 10 clones that hit CL11, then resample, you SHOULD get at least 40-45 DNA from them... which will make another 8-9 clones that should stay at or below CL10.
the bad news? yeah, you do twice as much work with the crafting tool, and you'll likely lose some DNA.
the good news? the recombine clones will usually have more action and mind than the first generations... CL10 6k/5k/4k is not uncommon. and if you're REALLY lucky, 10 CL11 clones will yield MORE than 50 DNA samples...

As a BE I had no trouble at all hitting lvl 10.
Try and keep the average sample quality as high quality, avoid using all Very high quality samples
Also use it as (VD-HP-VD-HP-HP) This way the pets come out with even HAM, around 2k each. I don't experiment on any of them, although I haven't really tried with experiments, I accept them as being good enough as they are

It's working pretty well now. VD-VD-HP-HP-HP still gives me CL10 routinely. But moving to 2d gen, and mixing up the dna in the hurton pup slots works pretty well. Best so far is KR15, 5500 health, and ranged stun+blind strike.
