Thread: Creating Pets What is the main objective?

I created my first pets today, and no we shant mention the bearded Jax with 200 HAM LOL lets just put that one down to inexperience LOL But I ended up making what I thought was a pretty good angler with 8.5k/9.5k/7.5k of HAM using above average quality DNA from Piket Plainswalkers I was grinding for dna sampling.

Then I considered who could use it - its CL23 so its only really for mid level creature handlers. Therefore the question to all you experienced people is: is the objective of creating a pet to give it the highest possible HAM and resists while at the same time creating it at the lowest possible CL. eg would me angler have been a better pet to make it at CL11 if that is indeed possible?

Thanks in advance

In general, a customer is going to go looking for a pet in a very specific CL range, and so the best pet for him will be the strongest one you can make at that CL that he wants. If he can control something CL 24, and you have a CL 20 and a CL 24 with the same HAM, kinetic, and armor, the CL 20is generally not more appealing imho because all that means is that it more than likely does less damage and therfore will be harder to kill whatever it is that you're killing, and he's wasting some of the CH skills that he has in controlling the lesser pet.

The one exception to that is grinders who really do want the lowest CL possible that can still tank so as to get the maximum amount of CH xp each time they kill something.

Thanks for everyone for their insight on this. I did CH way back earlier in the year and I was one of the tank the creature once and get the points brigade. Its just good to have a wider appreciation of where to go and what people want so thanks for that, appreciated.

Actually no, forget all I said - the main objective is to have fun as its the only part of the BE profession that I actually found 'fun'. If it aint doing it for you then you're in the wrong profession imo.

HAM is important but many of my shoppers have expressed a larger importance on stats. High kinetic and energy is always good to have. High damage is nice but it all depends on what the end user wants the animal for.

When I make mid level animals like what your angler is I typically shoot for good resists, and hope for the best when it comes to damage and HAM. Mid level animals will more often than not just be a blocker or run interference during a hunt. They aren't typically there to take out a wild animal, they just need to be able to stand up to the wild animal while the hunter blams away from a safe distance. Light armor is a huge selling point for an animal in the CL20's.

Grinders will want low level high HAM animals. A pet only has to hit a wild animal once to get full creature handler points. Simply put if you blast away at a rancor until it's just about to fall over dead then send in your CL10 eopie to hit it one time you'll get a ton of CH points.

When making a pet these were the things I looked into:

Level (either as low as possible or as high as possible, depending on what I was making / dna I was using)

Kinetic Resistance (as high as possible)

Health (high as possible)

Armour (on)

Energy Resistance (is quite nice, but cansometimes be difficult to breed in with high kinetic)

Tbh I never worried about specials, ranged or really anything else - but then I was really quite generous with pet pricing so really most CHs so my stuff as a bargain rather than a really classy pet.

Fun is my only reason for doing it, otherwise Id never have chosen another crafting profession. I enjoy experimenting and surveying for resources - I get to do that and I also get to find good DNA which is a challenge. I could be grinding for Jedi right now if I wanted as Im one content badge short of glowing but Ive always played to enjoy and to be honest Jedi doesnt blow my skirt up - BE did LOL. Im actually most looking forward to making good quality chef ingredients as a friend is one of the best chefs I know.
